Family accomodation

Simple yet very clean accommodation, located very close to the beach.
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
The highlight is definitely the food – freshly cooked dishes, delicious fresh fish and curry and very good pancakes in the morning.
Squirrels, monkeys, peacocks in the garden.

Disappointing in many ways

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant as I had high expectations
Firstly the staff were friendly engaging and efficient
We went for prawns with salad or french fries
There was one part of the menu that had french fries with prawns and a choice of medium or large and another daily market price king prawns with salad rice or vegetables
I was shown the prawns which appeared fresh and numbered 10 but was not informed whether they were market price prawns or not but imagine they were but were not told so but that is important as there was a price hike from 2500 ( large) to 3500.I suspect that the lower priced were not fresh otherwise why the price difference. The king prawns were of a reasonable size but how much difference in size from large prawns.
I should have asked more questions but most restaurants do not have this differentiation.
It was not helped that there was a very mean portion of french fries when it stated misleading French fries with prawns rather than prawns with french fries
The Pina Colada had little taste of alcohol.
Matters were compounded when the salt shaker which was filled from the top and not a screw top and with salt very wet I needed to shake quite vigorously and the salt landed on my prawns. It was apparent they were washed and returned and no added french fries
On paying the bill I was initially charged the normal price for daily market price prawns and I protested saying that there was an element of meanness and lack of transparency and it would be helpful if they were a little strategic.Eventually they reduced the price of prawns and removed service charge but without persistence on my part
If there is a daily market price it should be stated per 100 gm - I have no idea whether they are market fresh or frozen but why would they be frozen when you have abundant prawns in fish market - it is not a good look and I cannot see how large prawns would be much smaller than king prawns judging by latter size
However I will give credit to the salad - very fresh with good mix of vegetables

If you're looking for a beach vacation with ocean views, this is not the spot. If you're looking for luxury, this is not where you should stay. However if you're looking to sleep somewhere with a mosquito net over your head, a place to shower and 2 minutes away from seeing turtles then this is the place for you. This hotel has the essential basic needs, bed, shower, mosquito net, towels, soap, toilet paper. I mention these, because if you're expecting a hotel that provides shampoo, lotions, a fridge or any other amenities, this is not the case.
Service on the other hand is exceptional. The staff and everyone who works at the hotel is very kind and happy to accommodate our requests. The menu was varied, and we tried quite a few dishes and were pleased with all of them.
If you're coming to see turtles on Rekawa beach, then book your stay here, it's literally a 2 min walk to the beach (we saw baby turtles making their way to sea, and mama turtles laying eggs in the evening). If however you don't care about seeing turtles, book elsewhere. The hotel is not close to much else, and there are no swimmable close by.

Let Big Mama look after you

What a lovely family run hotel
We had a blast all the family are so approachable and helpful, nothing was too much.
Rooms are clean and bright with air con and fan above bed
Bathroom well appointed wet room.
View of the lake from rear balcony and you can hear the waves crashing onto the beach as it’s 2 mins walk from hotel
Breakfast is a great offering of mixed very fresh fruit and then comes a lovely dhal and coconut rotis
Fresh toast and butter jam and pots of tea or coffee
Main menu has many tasty meals large portions and good quality and it’s all worth the wait as all food is cooked to order so just relax and chat, watch the chip monks playing in the trees or the peacock on the roof
