I think we found the right combination between luxury accommodation, historic charm & homely atmosphere that we needed
The rooms were very tastefully decorated to compliment the theme of this boutique style hotel. The menu's provided traditional Sri Lankan or Western options to suit your mood & we truly felt like we were visiting family with the warm & friendly hosts come to chat with us & show us around their home. The home grown produce & local craft items on display also added to this experience, with this style of accommodation.

An Oasis! Live for a few days in a Historic Home and experience tranquility
A group of us (4 Australians) were fortunate to have stayed a couple of nights in this wonderful historic home lovingly cared for by Amitha and Devaki. The experience is like no other, as Amitha and Devaki invite you to join them for meals, walks in the extensive gardens and explain the significance of this gracious home. In addition we were served with food and drink from the produce from the very same garden. Scrumptious! The rooms and facilities are at the top end of luxury and the home is beautifully maintained with attention to detail and original features.
Amidst this you cannot but help feel that you are immersed the tranquility of Sri Lankan village life with the sounds of birds to accompany us.
It would be a pity if you visited Sri Lanka and did not spend a few nights at Eladetta to take a break from a packed travel program (which we had). Eladetta was an oasis we will cherish from our memories in Sri Lanka

Idyllic stay, beautiful & historic boutique hotel, unsurpassed attention to detail.
My US-based family and my S/L-based mother, stayed for 3 nights at Eladetta . To say the rooms were elegant is an understatement. My husband and kids stayed in the Tropical Paradise room which had a four poster bed, a double for the kids and an additional sitting room that opens onto a side lawn perfect for our children (6 & 2 yrs) to run around in. The bathroom was very large with bathrobes and even candles for that atmospheric soak. Amitha & Dewaki and their wonderful team were perfect hosts - offers of tea on the lawn, a tour of the estate, ping pong and even putting practice. And then there was the food... we stayed at a number of very, very nice hotels during our trip but Eladetta's menu (selection at breakfast, lunch & dinner) was the most diverse and consistently delicious. Staying at Eladetta was something truly special.

A Wonderful Place
I start with the only regret we had. We should have booked more nights then only one. Of course you know that when you are on holiday that you go to many touristic places and spend time at hotels with many other tourists. This is not a problem of course but the best thing that probably everybody wants is that special feeling of be closer to a local feeling with style, class but most of all warm hospitality.
It’s all here! As soon as you arrive you know that it’s gonna be special. We had a suite which was very stylish decorated, a separate living room with everything top notch into details and a spa bathroom....well what can I say more.
The tour around the 20 acres garden is very interesting and dinner and breakfast were sublime.
When we go back to Sri Lanka this address will be at the top of our list!

The highlight of visiting Kandy is to stay at Eladetta Walauwa
My family and I would like to thank Amitha & Dewaki for making us so welcome in their home.
The other reviewers prior to ours have also pointed out all the reasons as to why and visit. So rather than repeating all the wonderful accolades which we totally endorse - it was just such a pleasure to experience and meet Amitha & Dewaki who go above and beyond in their desire to provide you with a historical connection to Sri Lanka.
The decor and the room facilities are exceptional and compliment the historical nature of the building/home.
If its feasible try to go on the walking tour around the local area - and for those who are interested in botany. agriculture , local life - its fascinating to see and experience all the love and attention that has developed the grounds of Eladetta Walauwa.
For us the highlight of visiting Kandy was to experience Eladetta Walauwa. So much so that if we return I think we would just stay within the grounds of this accommodation and the local walks accessible from the property.
