Homely central little hotel.

What a cozy place. Run by a Vietnamese family who have lived in Sweden for over forty years. Nice rooms and also two apartments for longer stays. Breakfast for cheap money and access to coffee and sandwiches and fruit all day. Child friendly games. Close to train station.

From the common room / breakfast room you go directly to the rooms. Accordingly, it is noisy when guests arrive later in the evening or breakfast is prepared in the morning.
Breakfast is measly for the price of accommodation. The coffee is miserable.
Simply furnished room. But functional and clean.

A different hotel experience

The hotel has a great location, along the waterfront in a nice brick building.
the room I had was quiet, which I appreciate.
There is no staff at the hotel when you check in, instead you get a code for the doors, and then find a key in a key box.
There is bread and cheese et cetera in the fridge for an evening sandwich and there is a coffee or tea machine so that you can make a cup for yourself.
The same goes in the morning: the staff arrives around 7.30 so if you get up before that you make your own breakfast from ingredients in the fridge.
I wish the rating system below included something between average and very good - plain good. I think the hotel is quite nice, staff friendly and helpful - and it is different with this - serve yourself - arrangement. But I also think that the price is fairly high in relation to this.
Seems to me hotels in Gävle are expensive on the whole. And in light of this, Alderholmen is a nice, small, hotel.

I love it

We're a family with 2 (13 y.o girls). This hotel was perfect for us, clean, with good breakfast. We only need a place for the night but we had much more. There is also food, and other stuff for a night sandwich (with no extra fee). No reception, I received code via mobile phone.
