Beautiful situated B&B.

We stayed two nights in Hotel Laurenti, in Soderkoping, Sweden. Soderkoping is a lovley town on the coast of the Baltic sea, with a great history going back to medieval ages, when it was one of the most important ports for the Hansa, the northern European trade company linking towns in northern Germany with the Nordic countries.
Gota kanal starts here and ends in Gothenburg. The town is also adorned by a lovely little river. Hotel Laurenti is a one-story building situated next to this river, and with a terrace overlooking a small strech of the river. Tea, coffe and cake is served here everyday from 2-8 pm. Our room was supposed to be a handicap room, but left quite a lot to wish for in that respect. It was squeaky-clean, with nice neo-classical furniture (copies), and quite spacous. The view was not really a wiev, looking directly on to a house being refurbished only 15 meters away. The bathroom was ok, but it was a bit difficult to get from the wheelchair on to the wc, and the shower had a wall on one side, making it very difficult to get into this half-cubicle. There was a small stool to sit on, but this was way too low, and had no supporting back rest or handles. When we asked for another, the receptionist simply stated that there were no other. We paid almost 300 £ for two nights. For that price, someone should have done some real quick shopping to get another shower chair! The breakfast contained of boiled eggs, bred and spread, nothing cooked. No room service or restaurant.
When we checked in, one of the receptionist was more concerned about the possibility of my wheelchair making a scratch on the bed, than how I would get into it. The reception is closed during night. In my mind, this is more a Bed & Breakfast than a hotel.

It´s kind of booring

The only available hotel to stay in when I Visited Söderköping.
Very kind staff met me when I arrived late.
The room was big and there was a lot of heavy nice oak furniture. But nothing on the walls. No paintings, no nothing. Like an institution. And also the bathroom was equipped with alarm button if you fall down on the floor. Like an institution.
But it was nice enough and clean enough.

Not a nice place to stay......

We arrived at the Hotel Laurenti on our bicycles having cycled from Linkoping earlier in the day. On arrival we were confronted by the manager (owner?) who insisted that we take off our shoes before entering the hotel! (The were a bit dusty from a day on the road but nothing more). He stood guarding the door until we did so. The room was good and very clean and we settled down comfortably. But we opened the window to let in some fresh air. At 23:07 the manager knocked on the door (we were already in bed) and requested that we close the window to avoid the possibility of rain entering the room during the night. (We obliged by almost closing it to the shortest hook). Waking up in the morning we headed over to breakfast at 09:40 (having been told breakfast ends at 10:00 precisely). We sat around drinking coffee and reading the morning newspapers until about 10:15 and were not requested to leave during this period. The breakfast was of good quality for a small hotel with a good selection of spread and freshly baked rolls. At 11:00 exactly the (manager's wife?) banged on our door and asked why we weren't out of the room yet. "Check out is at 11:00!". We apologised and said we were just packing and would be out shortly. At 11:07 the woman banged on the door again!!! And this time ordered us out in no uncertain terms. We finished picking up our things and were out of the door at 11:11. (As we would have been anyway without any banging on the door!). We were also informed that we had been very disrespectful in sitting in the breakfast room until 10:15!
On plus side: Good size room with a nice sofa and very clean. Fresh rolls for breakfast ++.
On the minus side: The hotels' managers/employees don't exactly treat you as much cherished guests!

Tråkigt bemötande men välskött
