Tosi kiva paikka

Be warned if you go!

Be warned!!! It seems that if you make a reservation on line AND PAY FOR IT, that there is a high chance they will not have it and not know you are arriving. Call or email to confirm!!
This place is problematic and not for everyone. Tidy, solid cabins but some serious lack of maintenance. The grass wasn’t mowed and 2 feet high in front of the cabin, the shower had a soggy smelly mat and dripped constantly. The stove top was broken with an electric burner placed on top. This is a big, older place and it looks too much to maintain.
The caretaker were nice but impossible to find when needed. Nobody was ever at reception and the phone # given at the desk did not work.
On the other hand, the location is lovely. Cabins are solid, cozy.
For non-Swedes, linens are extra so plan another $15-20/person for that.

A wonderful time in an amazing place

I have only given this place a 4 because of the tiredness of the accommodation - but we've been told they are moving next year to a purpose built site across the border in Finland. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful, the food is regional and excellent. The safaris were well organised, smoothly run and interesting. Finally, I hope they take the wilderness sauna with them when they move. There really is nothing like a dip in an iced over stream to take the heat off from a wood heated sauna.

Outstanding food, very friendly staff, cottages a bit old

We spent a week in the Svanstein lodge the first week of April 2015. There still was a meter of snow, but you could already sense the spring as the first streams broke ice-free.
We stayed in a nice cottage, although the furniture was a bit old.
Went on a Husky safari, extremely recommendable.
The food served every evening is excellent.
With our car we went two days to Äkaslompolo for crosscountry skiing, extremely recommendable.
The outdoor day (I think that was it's name) was nice but not very challenging, as it is more oriented for everyone (we have a little outdoor experience). It ended with a very nice meal around a fire.
We learned a lot about the region with the staff, who is knowledgeable and helpful.
Wifi is free but slow, because of the bad connection in the region. If you want to have fast internet you need a 3G hotspot, who is less reliable but much faster.

Surprisinly cosy

I stayed in one of the "cottages" with two preteens. Our main attraction was the ski piste some 7 km away.
We especially appreciated the friendly multilingual staff, our own kitchen, possibility to use the sauna& swimming pool& jacuzzi, and the breakfast.
Worth noting is that closest grocery stores are 40 km away - so either you bring your food with you, or book full board.
