Fantastic Easter Eve 2026
What a fantastic kitchen you have with such high and consistent quality that impressed throughout from the lovely Easter menu to tonight's a la carte dinner. We were a party of 9 people and there was nothing more we could have wanted. Room 3 at the castle was so nice and at breakfast this morning - with lit candles and atmospheric, still background music - there was everything you want: homemade bread, smoothie, fresh fruit, several toppings, vegetables, scrambled eggs, bacon, homemade muesli, pancakes, cheeses and sweets for the coffee. We will return to summer when the fantastic castle park is in full bloom. Thanks for a great Easter 2026

A lovely castle, but room to grow hospitality
Teleborgs Slott, a little lovely castle hotel
- How to get there? -
The hotel is located in a beautiful forested lakeside setting just outside of Växjö.
Bus number 3 from Växjö Central Station, to the University (Universitetet) runs roughly every 20 minutes and takes you there in less than 15 minutes for €3,50 single fare.
From the university area, it is a short walk (approximately 5 minutes) to the hotel. It is easy to find: simply walk straight ahead from the bus stop in the direction the bus continues, then turn left. After about 300 metres, you cannot miss the castle.
- First Impression -
Although the castle is not large, it is magnificent and impressive to see, and it really feels like a place where you would want to stay.
However, the entrance is a little confusing, as there are no signs indicating where the main entrance is. The large staircase does not immediately feel like the main entrance, which is made even more confusing by a door on the right-hand side marked “Reception” that has a code lock. Later I learned that this is the entrance used after 21:00 with your room key. I would suggest to put some flowerpots and a clear sign at the stairs “Välkommen” and an arrow Reception.
- Surroundings -
The surroundings are beautiful, situated right next to the lake. It is lovely for a stroll along the shoreline or even a short walk through the forest. The area is quiet, especially during the summer when many university students are away on vacation.
The castle itself is beautiful on the inside. The hallways and rooms breathe a unique historical atmosphere. I absolutely recommend exploring the castle and taking some pictures. The building itself is one of the main reasons to stay here and should not be missed.
- Reception / Check-in -
The young woman at the reception desk was very friendly, polite, although she forgot to welcome me to the hotel. The check-in itself was barely basic quality, I was informed about breakfast, the alternative entrance used after reception closes, and the shared bathroom facilities.
Beyond these practical matters, very little information about the castle herself was provided. Personally, I would have appreciated a brief introduction to the castle, its history, or its origins, adding a personal touch and appreciation of visiting. After all, people do not book a castle hotel solely for a place to sleep; the castle itself is part of the experience.
I also missed some practical information about the facilities. For example, no information was given about dinner possibilities in the restaurant, the use of the sauna (bastu), or the snacks and drinks available in the hallway. As a first-time guest, I found myself discovering most of these things on my own.
One final observation: most signs, notices, and information throughout the hotel are written only in Swedish. While this is of course understandable, international guests who do not speak the language may find it difficult to understand certain facilities or instructions.
- Room Service -
There is no room service, which was a little confusing because there is a menu in the room. At first, I assumed it was for room service, but later realised it was for the restaurant downstairs.
There are snacks and tea available on a table in the hallway, which is lovely. Initially, I thought these were complimentary, but they are not. There is a price list next to them. It appears to operate on an honesty system, although it was not entirely clear how purchases are monitored. Personally, I think it would be a nice gesture if these small items were complimentary for guests, fitting the castle allure.
- Dinner -
Although the kitchen closes around 21:15, they kindly prepared a lovely dinner for me in the dining room, which I greatly appreciated after a long day of travel.
The ordered steak and fries were excellent. The fries were perhaps slightly too salty, but still very tasty. The meal was served with homemade sourdough bread and butter. The steak was cooked perfectly and remained juicy and tender.
Including a drink and sparkling water, the total came to only €27, which surprised me as being very reasonable for that level of quality.
- Finding Room No. 15 -
Finding the room is not difficult, although the receptionist could have mentioned that the reception itself is already located on the second floor.
There is an elevator, which is a nice surprise. I would not have expected one in a castle of this age and character.
Room 15 is located on the fourth floor. The elevator goes to the third floor, after which a short staircase leads to the fourth. Be careful not to bump your head, as the doorway to the fourth floor is rather low, while the floor itself feels oddly elevated before dropping again. Didn’t fully understand why this was.
The room is located a little further down the corridor on the left-hand side and is opened with a traditional key.
- The Room (15) -
The room was smaller than expected but comfy, with a high ceiling and a tiny window.
One thing I noticed immediately was the temperature. It was quite warm inside.
There are plenty of amenities available, including two bathrobes, complimentary bottles of water, an information folder, and even a hairdryer. The television is quite small and placed off centre. I was as well missing a telephone in the room.
The bed linen were clean and comfortable, while the pillows were average. The bed itself is perfect, not too soft, not too hard, comfortable.
A significant downside were the lampshades, which felt completely out of place in the room. They featured a panther or jaguar motif that seemed cheap, more suited to a brothel than a castle room.
Oddly enough, some of the lamps were unplugged from the wall.
The room itself was neatly tidy and clean.
Later that night, the heat became unbearable. I attempted to open the small window, but it appeared to be locked shut. The lack of fresh air made the room extremely uncomfortable, resulting in a poor night's sleep.
I tried sleeping without blankets, but even that did not help. After about half an hour, I simply gave up trying to get comfortable.
This was a major disadvantage and one of the biggest negatives of the room. There is no fan and no air conditioning or cooling system/open window available.
- The Bathroom -
It is understandable that not every room has a private bathroom due to the limitations of the historic building, so I accepted this without issue.
The bathroom facilities are located next to the toilets. The layout is somewhat unusual. There is a door leading to a small changing area with a bench, and from there separate doors lead to the showers and the sauna (bastu).
The door to this small changing area cannot be locked, which feels slightly uncomfortable when changing clothes, as anyone could theoretically walk in. Since guests also use the sauna nude, perhaps this is considered normal. However, for guests who are not accustomed to this, a lock on the changing area door might be appreciated.
The shower doors themselves can be locked.
The showers are basic. They were approximately 90% clean, although the shower head had visible stain marks and looked somewhat dirty.
It also took quite a while before the water became warm.
A curious detail is that there are several old wall-mounted holders intended for shampoo bottles, yet the provided shampoo and conditioner bottles do not fit inside them. As a result, one of the bottles had been placed directly on the floor.
The old holders and unused hooks make the space appear somewhat cluttered. I would suggest removing the unused (remnant)ones, and placing fittings that actually accommodate the bottles provided.
I also missed a small shelf where guests could place their own toiletries.
A major annoyance was the automatic lighting system. While showering with the curtain closed, the lights would suddenly switch off, leaving you in complete darkness.
To reactivate them, I had to wave my hand from behind the curtain every few minutes. This quickly became rather frustrating.
After showering, I noticed that a considerable amount of water remained on the bathroom floor. This is not particularly pleasant when stepping into hotel slippers and immediately soaking them.
I also missed having a squeegee, as well as a small mirror.
- Breakfast -
Breakfast was good, but somehow had expected a bit more. There was insignificant choice of bread. But there were some nice fruits, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese and ham and a little cake.
- Check-out -
The check-out was very brief and somewhat disappointing/not personal. The entire interaction consisted of handing over the key, being told that I was checked out, and wished a nice day.
No questions were asked about my stay, whether I had enjoyed my visit, or if everything had been satisfactory.
For a castle hotel, I would have expected a slightly more personal farewell. A simple question about the guest's experience would have gone a long way and would have left a much stronger final impression.
CONCLUSION
Teleborgs Slott is a beautiful castle in a stunning location, full of history and atmosphere. While I enjoyed the setting, the dinner, and the overall charm of the property, the hotel falls short in several areas of guest experience, communication, and comfort. The biggest drawback during my stay was the excessive heat in Room 15, which resulted in a poor night's sleep. With more attention to guest information, personal service, and room comfort, this could be a truly exceptional castle hotel.

Finally a castle hotel that lives up to expectations. We felt so good and everything is made possible by a very professional and friendly staff. This was noticeable at check-in and check-out as well as at mealtimes. The breakfast was probably the best I got in a Swedish hotel. The decor is also worth a comment. Teleborg Palace has cost money on the interior design of both public areas and rooms. The right location has been found without any fuss but also without mass-produced conference furniture. The surroundings are so nice with a real castle park and views of the lake landscape.

Super stunning, authentic, genuine and charming old castle. Wow the effect is there immediately. And the bonus is a good kitchen.
