The rooms are lovely and well maintained the bar is rudimentary but its the staff that make it so welcoming and helpful

Lovely modern hotel situated near the old town. Helpful staff, clean, nicely decorated, and lovely continental breakfast. Would stay again.

Central location but warm room
We stayed for two nights in the Passage hotel. The parking is under the building. Reception was professional. The room was not big but sufficient. The location is great! There is no airconditioning in the room ( topcooling?) which is makes the minimum temperature above 24 c also at night. Opening a window is not really an option because of the noice from the bussy road. Breakfast is great. If they fix the internal climate this would be a great place to stay.

Upgraded to the loft — outstanding space and value in Basel
We stayed two nights at The Passage, and the standout move was upgrading to the loft. For not a lot of additional money, we got a far better space and a much better feel for the room — a genuinely generous layout with a huge balcony and proper outdoor space, which completely changed the character of the stay. We spent real time outside on it, something you simply don't get at most city hotels, let alone at this price.
After coming from a famous "luxury" five-star that charged nearly three times as much for a cramped room with a terrible shower, The Passage was a revelation. The room was spacious and well-appointed, the bathroom had a proper shower, and everything worked. Great value and a genuinely good location, with friendly, efficient, unpretentious service.
If you're weighing a big-name luxury hotel against this place, take The Passage — and spring for the loft. Outstanding experience-per-dollar. We'll be back.

Comfortable rooms and friendly staff
We have recently stayed here during the Floss and Jazz Festivals, during the summer heat. Our room was great, a good size, quiet and good air conditioning. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
Pros - the above plus the old town was easy to access, the downstairs space was comfortable and enough to relax in if needed.
Cons - with the current roadworks it is quite a walk from the Rhine, and down town if you're interested in spending time down there. It's also uphill!
Overall it was great for the price and we enjoyed our 3 night stay.
