Great place to stay to visit Bern
Great location, just located near a tram stop. Great atmosphere and cleanliness. Very polite staff, overall great service. Great value for money and excellent atmosphere.
Caveat--for a light sleeper, I could hear the trams from the 8th floor. This proved not to be a problem for me; however, I have spent many years sleeping beside UK's rail tracks, thus your mileage may vary.

Avoid this hotel!
This was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. The first room should never have been allocated to guests. It was filthy, with blood stains on the toilet door, stained carpets, thick dust around the air conditioning vent, a dirty bathroom, a faulty shower, and what appeared to be mould on the ceiling once it had been cleaned.
We were forced to spend the first night in these unacceptable conditions before being moved. The replacement room was only marginally better and was clearly not suitable for a family of four. To fit the sofa bed, the hotel had pushed one of the beds against the wall and removed the bedside tables, leaving my child sleeping directly beneath a hanging bedside light that was never designed to be positioned over a bed.
The reception staff did their best and were helpful throughout. Unfortunately, the Front Office Manager’s response was completely unacceptable. Rather than taking responsibility, they considered a couple of complimentary breakfasts to be adequate compensation for an experience that fell far below any reasonable hotel standard. We were refused even a partial refund.
We have photographs documenting the condition of both rooms, and they speak for themselves.
This hotel failed in the most basic responsibility of providing clean, safe and suitable accommodation. We will not be returning and would strongly advise others to book elsewhere.

A spacious accessible room, but bathroom facilities need to be reviewed.
The room is spacious enough to accommodate a person in a wheelchair, which is very much appreciated. On the other hand, several accessibility elements in the bathroom deserve to be improved:
The shower seat should ideally include a backrest and armrests.
The shower screen is too narrow, which complicates transfers.
The soap dispenser attached to the mirror, above the sink, is not accessible from a seated position.
Although the height-adjustable sink is a good idea, the control buttons are placed too far away to be used easily, and the sink itself is a little too small.
I also find it a shame that this type of truly accessible room is most often only found in higher-end hotels. This gives the impression that accessibility is perceived as a comfort option, when it is an essential need for many people.
Furthermore, a problem occurred during the booking: the receptionist had indicated to us that breakfast was included in the rate, but upon our arrival, we were informed of the contrary. It was therefore necessary to add them as a supplement. Even though a commercial gesture of 9 CHF was granted to us, the situation remains regrettable, especially since the price of breakfast (29 CHF per person per day) is particularly high and difficult to justify.

Novotel Bern was a solid choice for our stay, especially for its convenience and overall comfort. The hotel is located right on a tram line, which made getting around Bern very easy, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. The property was also clean and well-maintained, which we appreciated.
A few practical notes for future guests: we didn’t try the breakfast, so can’t comment on it. Food and drinks at the hotel are quite expensive, which is typical for Switzerland but still worth planning for. The bar area is pleasant for a short stop, though somewhat limited in selection and atmosphere. Room size may be a consideration for families—while functional, the configurations (either a queen with a sofa bed or two twins with a sofa bed) felt a bit tight for four people.
