Lucerne find
The Barabas Hotel Luzern was a terrific place to stay- my husband and I stayed in the Japanese double room with a private bathroom, which was absolutely perfect for us. Breakfast was varied and quite good, but the best part of staying here were Luka and Heidi at the front desk. They were both so helpful with any of our needs while at Barabas! Very interesting, historic hotel, used to be a jail. Good location in the city, and not far from a bus stop.

Cute and original
I slept a couple of nights in this hotel which was converted into an ex-prison.
This then becomes its original feature, you sleep in rooms that were once the cells of prisoners, with doors that are the original ones, and therefore very contained in size.
The bathroom inside has been created with Plexiglas walls, which allow you to glimpse inside .. and do not isolate from noise
The hotel is original and nice, spotless but here it takes a bit of adaptive spirit and few pretensions.
The location is great, 5 minutes from the historic center but in a quiet and peaceful street.
We didn't have breakfast at the hotel so I can't comment on that.

Le nostre camere hanno ancora le dimensioni originali delle celle, il che le rende compatte e riflette il carattere unico della nostra struttura. I bagni sono separati da pareti in vetro smerigliato, in modo che siano visibili solo le sagome, ma la privacy sia garantita. Attribuiamo grande importanza alla pulizia e a un ambiente curato, e siamo lieti di sapere che questo aspetto vi abbia colpito positivamente.
Ci auguriamo che, nonostante le piccole limitazioni, abbiate potuto godere di un'esperienza interessante e speciale presso di noi e saremo lieti di darvi il benvenuto nuovamente in occasione della vostra prossima visita a Lucerna.

Fun place to stay
I didn't realize when I booked this that it was a converted jail and it was a fun surprise. If you are looking for 4 or 5 stars, this isn't it. But if you are looking for clean accommodations without spending a fortune, this is a great option. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and the employees were incredibly nice and helpful. The rooms are small, after all they are converted jail cells, but had everything we needed. The hotel is located within walking distance of the train station at the edge of old town. For reference, we are two high school friends in our 60's who were looking for the experience and value over luxury. This hotel had just the right atmosphere for that. The halls can be a little noisy during the day/early evening (it is a jail) but quiet hours start at 10 and we had no problems. I would absolutely stay here again.

What a delightful stay at Hotel Barabas Luzern! From the moment I arrived the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to help — they made everything easy and welcoming. The hotel is spotless; cleanliness was clearly a priority throughout the property.
The location couldn’t be better — perfectly placed for exploring Lucerne’s sights, restaurants, and charming streets. My room was a real highlight: wonderfully spacious, with original doors and those striking window bars that give the space a unique, historic character. It truly felt like stepping back in time while enjoying modern comfort.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a central, clean hotel with character and truly hospitable staff. I’ll definitely be back!
