A warm disappointment
When one opens the doors of one's promised resting place after a tiring journey, one harbors at least the modest hope of some cooling and kindness. Unfortunately, our entry into this establishment turned out to be a straight descent into a subtropical inferno. While the thermometer pointed to a ruthless thirty-four degrees, the shutters and curtains were wide open to allow the blazing sun to spread freely. A truly fabulous greeting for a property that already has the sinister character of an overgrown greenhouse because of its lavish glass parts.
Nor did the reception promise redemption. At the chilly, electronic check-in kiosk we actually detected a human stature. This living Romanian façade of service, however, proved incapable of any significant form of conversation, and with visible difficulty managed to squeeze a single, lonely German word over the lips before abandoning us to our clammy fate.
The promise of some climatic relief was then cruelly dashed. In the entire building the air conditioning was conspicuous by complete absence. Not only our private rooms, but also the breakfast room and even the kitchens were at the mercy of a blistering, inescapable heat. One might assume that a building with such an architectural penchant for sunlight is at least flanked by a mechanical breeze, but one apparently prefers the atmosphere of a nineteenth-century sweat bath.
The morning meal, which usually serves as a beacon of comfort after a watchful and perspiring night, proved to be of a pitiful meagreness. A spartan and loveless scene that seamlessly matched the general decline. It was abuzz with rumours that the operation of this hotel has been handed over to a subtenant, which amply explains the general state of apathy and the utter lack of much-needed investment in any basic comfort.
In short, those looking for the renowned grandeur and impeccable sophistication of true Swiss hospitality would be wise to avoid this bleak place in a considerable arc. It is an extremely lousy spectacle of neglect and curious indifference.
The Swiss is carelessly outclassed by the neighbors!

Excellent rooms, but poor service
This hotel is located very close to the bus stop and a fair walk from the train station.
Our rooms were excellent: spacious, clean, well kept, nicely appointed, comfortable. Views were pleasant.
Service, however, was poor. The only person on duty was an older woman whose attitude was bad.
When we checked in, she was irritated (even though it was an hour past the beginning of check-in). She failed to give us details about the hotel (like the wifi password, how to use the outside door key, etc).
We chose to eat there that night (we couldn't find another place). The same woman was server and cook. First, she told us that several things on the menu were not available. So we ordered spaghetti, which she whipped up rather nicely.
The breakfast buffet was limited, and several items were used up when we got there (even though there was only one other guest in the hotel).
Bottom line: for Via Alpina hikers, this provides a comfortable and convenient place to stay. But don't expect courtesy, hospitality or attention.
Very good location
