The staff make this place shine

We stayed here quite by accident when we arrived in Lausanne from Italy and found all the hotels booked out because of a conference. The Auberge de Rivaz had two rooms left so we drove back and the night we spent there was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff of the restaurant did everything they could to make us feel welcome and treated the elderly couple we were travelling with as if they were royalty. The reception from the staff felt as if we were being welcomed home by our family after a long trip away. The accommodation was simple, clean, comfortable and perfect for what we needed but I barely remember what the place looked like, I just remember how the staff there in the restaurant made us feel :)

First and last time!

Cold and quite unpleasant welcome, because we declined the reservation for an evening dinner there! We planned to have dinner outside the hotel.
We had a fairly small room, but very clean and very nicely decorated.
On the other hand, extremely noisy, without air conditioning, but impossible to sleep with the window open, despite the intense heat.
The bathroom is also very small, you can't lean over the sink!
In addition, there is no mini bar in the room, you have to go up to the landing on the upper floor if you want cold water at night!
On the other hand, nothing to say about the breakfast, with excellent products and above all, at the service, an extremely kind lady, who raises the level of the welcome of this place.

Very nice

Great view of the lake. Beautiful, albeit very small rooms with hardly any space for suitcases. Wonderful breakfast. Right on the street, but you can't hear it. The beach is a 5-minute walk away, perfect for a morning swim.

Don't go

Any time of year, day or night, without a reservation! We walked a mile up from St. Saphorin on a Wednesday evening at 7:30 and despite most tables (inside and out) being empty, they could not accommodate us w/o a reservation

Surroundings Superior to Food

This location is hard to beat, but the food was somewhat disappointing. My minestrone soup would have better been described as cauliflower-vegetable soup. Not a bean or noodle in sight. Seafood spagetti was HEAVY on the mussels (tho they were quite good) and light on everything else. Had it not been for the view, I would say, "don't bother."
