Best stay in Zurich. Best staff in Zurich

Absolutely wonderful stay. The staff is pleasant and welcoming. Philipp Wettstein went out of his way to accommodate our group of 12. Nelly was also very kind , friendly and joyful
Close to train station. Comfortable beds and rooms. Great coffee. Amazing staff who gladly serves
Can’t beat it

Hey Sandy,
Thanks so much for this glowing review. We’re really happy you enjoyed a smooth, feel‑good stay with us and that the welcome from the team set the tone from the start. Hosting a group can be a bit of a puzzle, so it’s lovely to hear everything came together neatly.
We’ll make sure your kudos reach Philipp and Nelly. Knowing their care and energy stood out will make their day. It’s great to hear the location worked well for trains and wandering, and that the room comfort and coffee kept everyone in good spirits.
We’d love to see you and the crew again whenever Zurich is on the cards.

Underwhelming & over priced

Ruby Mimi has an interesting concept, having been converted from a former cinema. The hotel carries this theme throughout, including a small theatre on our floor showing movies at scheduled times. Interestingly, we never saw anyone using it during our stay—perhaps not surprising, as most visitors to Zurich would rather be out exploring the city.
The reception is located at the entrance to the restaurant/bar area. The overall interior is quite dark and moody, which wasn’t really to my taste. Our room was small and fairly basic, decorated in a retro style with touches such as old radios. While the concept is distinctive, the room itself didn’t feel particularly comfortable or luxurious.
Breakfast was average, with a fairly standard selection of breads, pastries, yoghurt, ready-cooked omelette and chicken sausages. Nothing particularly memorable.
There were a couple of positives. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is very convenient, within easy walking distance of Zurich’s main train station and the city centre.
However, at a room rate of more than USD 600 per night during our stay, I found it very difficult to justify the price for the size of the room, facilities and overall experience. Zurich is certainly an expensive city, but even taking that into consideration, Ruby Mimi did not represent good value for money. At this price point, I would choose somewhere else on my next visit.

Hey Merryheart,
Thanks for sharing such a thoughtful take on your stay with us. We’re glad the location worked well for getting around Zurich and that our team made you feel welcome. At the same time, we’re sorry the experience didn’t land as it should for you, especially given the rate during your dates.
Ruby Mimi’s concept draws on our Lean Luxury philosophy, which keeps things focused on the essentials in a prime city spot. That means rooms are purposefully compact with an open bathroom layout to make the most of the space, and we centre comfort around a great bed, strong shower and smooth, fuss-free touches. Instead of in-room kettles and minibars, you’ll find complimentary hot drinks and a Maxi bar selection in our Galleys, along with a 24/7 bar for fresh coffee or a nightcap when you want it. We appreciate that this streamlined approach won’t suit every travel style, and we’re sorry it didn’t feel particularly comfortable or luxurious for you.
On the look and feel, we do lean into deeper tones for a cosy, cinema-inspired atmosphere, which ties back to the building’s history. We know tastes differ, so if you prefer a brighter vibe, our corner rooms bring in more daylight thanks to extra windows and can feel airier while keeping the same features.
Breakfast is designed to be simple and satisfying rather than elaborate, with a changing spread of fresh items to set you up for the day. We hear you that it didn’t stand out, and we’re sorry it felt unremarkable.
Regarding value, Zurich can peak during busy periods and big events, which does influence rates. Even so, the experience should feel balanced, and we’re sorry it didn’t for you this time. Your feedback helps us keep refining how our Lean Luxury philosophy comes to life, from room comfort to the small details that shape a stay.
Thanks again for giving us a try. If you decide to return to Zurich, we’d be happy to help you find a setup that better fits your preferences, such as a brighter corner room and easy access to the Galley for those complimentary hot drinks.

It’s like a super handsome guy who is actually an idiot.

Don’t do it. Room 303. It looks good, but there should be a class on how to use the lights (and climate system, and hot water) before checking in. In fact, when a room booking is accepted, the hotel should send instructions, so that guests can learn about how to turn on lights, use the thermostat and make a simple cup of tea.
While I was checking in (on the filthy self-check in IPad), another guest walked up and begged for instructions on how to use the lights in his room. The clerk said “Oh- I can’t explain it, but I’m going to get my colleague who knows how”. The self-check in IPad was not creating my self-check in room key for some reason, so an employee happily completed the task and sent me on my way to my room. (Employees A+)
Again, the room looks good, but there are signs everywhere and the design is most impractical. There is a sign not to hang clothing on the vanity light, yet there isn’t really anywhere to hang clothing at the entrance/near the bathroom. The only spot seems to be a tiny closet way across the room- which is not at all practical. There is a column right next to where the sign is about not hanging clothing- How about the hotel puts some hooks on that column, so that guests have a place to hang clothing? Obviously, there is an issue with hanging clothing. Also, there wasn’t anywhere to set my suitcase. I ended up with it on the floor.
A sign about how to use the thermostat- The choice is 1,2 or 3. Nothing really worked, so can the hotel simply use a regular thermostat with real temperature numbers? I finally gave up and slept in the heat.
A sign about how to use the lights! The lights- GESUS, the guest at check-in who begged for help was correct. I finally gave up trying to figure things out and pulled my key card out of the entrance to cut the room electrical when I wanted to go to sleep. Otherwise, I couldn’t get the lights off. Can the hotel do simple slide dimmers for the lights?
A sign about how to get hot water- I arrived at 10pm after a long day of travel, and was departing at 6am for the remainder of my journey. I’d hoped for a simple cup of tea to drink in the morning. Is there a kettle in the room? NO- I must walk across the hotel 3rd floor to “the galley” where again, there are instructions about how to use the tap to get hot water. Well, again- I tried (unsuccessfully).
I gathered my things, including my trusty thermos, tea bag and luggage. On the way out, the gal at the front desk kindly filled it with boiling water for me. (Staff A+)
Bottom line- This hotel design is horrible. In fact, it’s so bad that for the first time in my life, I looked up the design firm so that I could make absolutely certain that I would never stay in another hotel designed by them. MonoplanAG is the name of the company- and seriously, whoever designed this hotel room has likely either never stayed in a hotel or is some electronics expert who can figure out how to use lighting/ climate controls/ hot water. I’m crashing for the night. I’m not into it- but it looks good.

Hey Eurosnbaht,
Thanks for sharing such a clear account of your stay. We’re sorry your night at Ruby Mimi felt more puzzling than it should have, especially when you were just after a simple, restful stopover.
Our arrival process is built around self check-in to keep things swift, with our hosts right there to help as much or as little as you prefer. When the hotel is busy, pre-registering online usually shortens the steps, and we’re glad the team jumped in when the key creation stalled. It’s good to hear the hosts looked after you at the bar as well.
Regarding the room, we can appreciate how the layout and controls didn’t land for you. All rooms come with individual climate settings, and our hosts are on hand around the clock to get them set just right if the dial isn’t doing what you expect. The same goes for the lighting: we aim for streamlined controls, but if anything feels counterintuitive, our team is always happy to walk you through it or set scenes so you can simply switch off and sleep.
Storage-wise, our standard rooms keep things pared back, which doesn’t suit every travel style. If you prefer more hanging space or a dedicated wardrobe, you can request a room with one when booking, or opt for our Loft or Wow categories for a larger footprint and extra room to spread out. We also take onboard your note about convenient spots for luggage and quick-hang items.
We aim for a stay that feels easy, comfortable, and well considered. It’s clear this wasn’t the impression you left with, and we appreciate you highlighting where it fell short for you. If your plans bring you back to Zurich, we’d be glad to help tailor a setup that better fits your preferences, from room type to simple controls.

The hotel is in an excellent location. It’s literally a block from the train station, around the corner from several retail shops (chocolate, clothes, etc.). It’s across from the Aare River, and it’s an easy walk to several major landmarks. The hotel rooms are charming and unique with some great amenities. Shower pressure was strong. The bar/restaurant is charming too. The lobby area has a very laidback vibe. Check-in service is laidback too, and it’s a little self serve. The hotel doesn’t have a gym.

Hotel Ruby Zurich

Location is perfect. 5-6 min walk from Zurich grand centrale.
Rooms are small & basic for what we paid.
I think they were short of staff during our visit as one day out of 3 nights they did not clean our room.
Breakfast place is dark, dingy & dirty.
Breakfast staff also very inattentive as they are less compared to the guests ratio.
The reception & check in desk is in the restaurant cum bar which is so funny.
I will not go back again to this hotel.
