The best start up place to experience the culture of old Tainan

Originally built in 1897, Sai Kau Kin Manor was a traditional house in this area we
called the “Old Five Channels Area” before. In the past, this area was used to
transport manure, therefore locals named it “Sai Kau Kin”, which means “(area)
near the manure ditch”.
The owner of this old house is nicknamed “Head of the Hall”. He renovated his
century-old house in 2011 and renamed it “Sai Kau Kin Manor”.
The story of Sai Kau Kin Manor is neither particularly beautiful nor romantic. It is
a simple story of a family who has lived in harmony with this piece of land for a
century, and has left behind a house with a hundred years’ worth of memories. Sai
Kau Kin Manor, the old house which has been standing here for decades has now
been given a complete makeover and welcomes visitors from all places to this city.
We look forward to sharing the city’s stories with them, including the story of this
old house and the glorious past of this city.

Staying here makes you feel like you are one of the local residents
The owner, Mr James Tsai, is very friendly, and on the first evening of our stay, he dropped by to show us things to see in Tainan, and also local favourites (food) to try. On day 3, he brought a group of 5-6 local university students on a 'historic tour' of the house (with our permission of course). Afterwards, he invited us all to a drinks stall nearby - it was nice to chat and interact with the students.
While not in the immediate centre of town, most sites are within 15 minutes walk - and lots of shops and eateries in the neighbourhood. The locals are so friendly and nice - it really added a lot to the stay.
While in the house, remember to sit out in the 'balcony' - while there isn't a view per say, it is still a nice experience as you can literally hear what's going on in the neighbours (in a good way).
An interesting experience to share (which you may also experience): As we got into a taxi on arrival at the Tainan HSR station, the driver (who spoke mostly the local dialect) didn't exactly know where the house is. However, all you need to do is to make a call to James - he will give specific directions to the driver. In case you are in the same situation, just do the same :)
Overall, highly recommended if you want to truly experience 'Old Tainan'.

For the DIY-ers amongst you
The house has been redeveloped into a living room/kitchenette/wash room, a first floor with a two beds room, a kind of sitting room on the mezzanine and another room 6 steps higher under the roof. The airco is working well, fortunately, I hope also in the room in the attic. The wash room is shared, but most likely you will be the only guest. Close by you will find some old streets, but please visit the huge wet market at the end of one of those. Here you will find what you have not yet eaten, haven´t known what you were eating or did not dare to eat. I have seen many wet markets, but this is one not to forego.
Regarding the lack of services, the price for the hotel is steep.

My reply is late for three years
Maybe my information is not clear enough
The old house is only rented to a group of travelers, it is not shared and other travelers
So there will be no counter service,If there is a need to help the visitor can be easy to find me using a variety of app
About the city taxi driving
Human memory is absolutely not on google map
So I think there is a temperature of driving and technology to be able to provide the best service
Hope there is a chance to meet you
I think you can give me a higher rating next time
Thank you
James

I would recommend Sai Kau Kin Old House to everyone, especially those who are very interested in Tainan's history and culture.
