Nice enough but not much to do around there. Check what you get in the apartment - the information is VERY misleading
The apartment is part of a huge complex which includes 3 large apartment blocks, the Regent Hotel on the beach, and a convention centre, though I'm not sure if they're all owned by the same organisation. The entrance to the complex is from the main road south of Cha-Am and clearly indicated with a large 'Regent Hotel' sign. The apartments are just before you get to the beach front.
When we booked this we looked at the facilities listed, which seemed really extensive. However, I've added a note to each that doesn't exist, well at least in the apartment we stayed in:
In your private kitchen:
Refrigerator
Coffee machine - NO
Tea/Coffee maker - NO
Microwave
Kitchenware
Electric kettle
Outdoor furniture - NO
Stovetop
Toaster - NO
Dining area - NOT REALLY
Dining table - OK for 1 person
In the bathroom:
Shared toilet
Free toiletries - NO
Shower
Toilet
Slippers - NO
Shared toilet
Hairdryer - NO
Toilet paper
But perhaps the most misleading description of all is in the following:
Apartment facilities:
Desk - ??
Safety deposit box - NO
Hardwood or parquet floors
Flat-screen TV
Alarm clock - NO
Outdoor furniture - NO
Iron - NO
Fan - NO
DVD player - NO
Books, DVDs, or music for children - NO
Ironing facilities - NO
Seating Area - ?? There is a sofa
Microwave
Video - NO
TV
Toaster - NO
Hypoallergenic
Linen
Streaming service (like Netflix)
Private entrance
Kitchenware
Sofa bed
Heating - REALLY?
Washing machine - NO
Cable channels
Cleaning products
Air conditioning
Clothes rack - NO and we really needed one
Laptop safe - NO
Coffee machine - NO
Child safety socket covers - NO
Dining table
Upper floors accessible by elevator
Executive lounge access - DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS
Sofa
Blu-ray player - NO
Drying rack for clothing - NO AGAIN
Towels
Private apartment in building
Board games/puzzles - NO
Socket near the bed - BEHIND THE BED, we needed to pull the bed out to get to them
Detached
Tea/Coffee maker - NO
Refrigerator
iPod dock - NO
Stovetop
Carpeted
Kitchenette
Electric kettle
Kitchen
Single-room air conditioning for guest accommodation
CD player
Wardrobe or closet
Soundproofing
Satellite channels
Dining area
There's quite a lot of repetition here so not really helpful. While we didn't mind the absence of these things, except for the clothes dryer which we think is an important omission, I wanted to draw your attention to them in case you're staying for longer than the 3 nights we did. I mentioned this to the reception/office but they just said it was down to the owner of the apartment. Well, frankly, if they're advertising that the apartment has all these things, then the onus is on someone to make sure it's either accurate or potential visitors are told that this is a 'possible' list rather than an actual one.
Ok, moaning aside, the apartment itself is quite nice and makes a change to a hotel room. We were also lucky enough to have a bunkbed for the 2 girls, which they loved. The pools are great but we didn't really have time for any of the other facilities so I can't comment on those. It's close to the beach but there's no beach when the tide's in. Be warned.
If you head south through the Regent Hotel car park you'll come to a street with some shops and restaurants which are not bad at all. The whole area seems a little run down, though, with most shops closed. Perhaps this has been the case since the end of covid, when most seaside areas were turned into a type of post-apocalyptic scene, devoid of people who vanished back to their home towns, leaving most businesses to rot. Those that did survive here, though, are worth checking out. I've reviewed some of the restaurants in the relevant section.
There's also a 7-Eleven at the end of the block of shops/restaurants. It's a good 10 minute brisk walk from the Raincondo and the only place to get provisions for the apartment unless you have a car and want to drive several kilometres somewhere. I did ask the office when we arrived about how to walk to the shops and the 7-Eleven. In typical fashion they reacted in horror that we'd actually want to walk anywhere rather than drive, but to reach those places, it's best to walk otherwise you have to drive right back up to the main road and then find the turn off. This would definitely take longer than walking.
Overall, I'd say it's a great option if you want to stay in this area. The kids enjoyed it.
