Great If You Rent a Car or Motorbike
My wife Linda and I stayed in a one bedroom apartment at 'Soleil D'Asie Residence' for the whole month of February. We didn't rent a motorbike or a car. We wouldn't have felt safe driving on the left side of the road with the 'crazy' mostly motorbikers.
That being said, here are a list of our 'likes and dislikes'.
LIKES
The price was reasonable. Our one bedroom apartment was spacious. The pool, although relatively small, was really quite lovely, and the pool water was nice & warm.
Beautiful landscaping around the pool area. The property is small but a veritable oasis.
- A small but workable kitchen
- Check out the 2 restaurants, one just across and down from ‘Soleil’, the other next door and just up the hill on the right. We had Valentine Day's dinner at the 'Mekong', and it was very good. We ordered Pizza to Go from the 'Three Dogs' 4 times during our 30 day stay.
- Cleanliness or any issues - The 2 resident staff (very limited English) Aye & Shuma do a good job, and someone from management who speaks English is always a WhatsApp text or call away. Download What'sApp if you don't already have it.
- Good wifi both in the apartment and at the pool area.
- The water in the shower was always hot - no problems
- Our additional cost of electricity was only about US$1 a day. That was a pleasant surprise. Of course we hardly used the AC. Some guests leave the AC running 24/7.
- The 2 bedroom units have a much larger kitchen area, and a living room with more comfortable seating, as well as a second bathroom. If you can handle the difference in price and the stairs to the upstairs bedrooms, go for it.
DISLIKES
- Location, Location, Location. Taxis & Grab are quite expensive. If you don’t rent a car or motorbike, it’s at least a 15 minute walk down to the beach, and then back up a fairly steep hill in the afternoon in 85 - 95F temperatures. Not much fun, especially if you are older or have mobility issues. 'Impiana Hotel' discourages non guests from beach access, so now to reach the beach you need to cross a busy, 4 lane road, turn left, walk past the 'Impiana' until reaching a gate on your right which says ‘Private Property - Do Not Enter’, open the gate and walk down a path to the beach. There you can rent beach chairs for the day. In the future, someone may decide to lock that gate.
- The only place to sit in the living room was a small love seat. Kind of tight for 2 people staying for a month. We could have used a comfortable, padded chair.
- We sleep on a firm mattress at home, but the mattress on the king size bed in our 1 bedroom apartment at ‘Soleil’ was hard to the point of being uncomfortable. We ended up putting a comforter under our bed sheet and it helped to some extent.
For the most part, except for the location, we enjoyed 'staying at 'Soleil d'Asie Residence. We met a number of really nice people there. The pool area is conducive to socializing. However, if you are not going to rent a car or a motorbike, are somewhat younger than us, or very fit, I would not recommend your staying there.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review to share your thoughts. We appreciate all feedback and use it to improve our guest experience. We already have plans to replace many of our mattresses and sofas this summer as part of our regular updates to the property. Our location is actually considered quite close to the main road and not steep at all compared to almost every other villa/apartment rental on the island. Koh Samui is made up almost entirely of steep hills surrounding the sea, and the vast majority of villas/apartments are located quite far up the hills. To have a villa/apartment within walking distance to the main road and beach, and without requiring a 4x4 truck to access due to steep hills is actually rare on the island, except for the in-town properties which are often significantly higher priced. Most of our guests are able to walk to the main road and beach without any issue, but for elderly or less mobile, it is recommended to rent a car or motorbike/scooter, which both are available for rental directly next door to us.

Great place for a holiday!
We met up as a family from NZ and Sweden for our Christmas holidays and had a fab time here in 3 apartments. The beach and restaurants are about a 500m walk away. Irwin and his team are fantastic and they doted on the kids. The pool was warm and inviting from the moment we arrived. The apartments are well appointed and cleaned regularly. Washing was done on a same-day basis. Couldn't ask for more - will definitely be back.

3 week stay over xmas
Just finished an amazing stay in Soleil Dassie. Perfect base for me and my wife.
Rented the 2 bedroom apartment as we had my sister in law staying the later part of the trip and we were not disappointed. Very spacious and rooms big. Downstairs living room and dining room where open planned and spacious.
Irvin who is on site to help with things was fantastic and lovely couple maintaining the grounds/cleaning apartments. Very friendly and chilled people.
No restaurant or bar facilities but the place next door does and you can jump in and use their pool also. Good for food and a drink.
Location was perfect for us. Just a quick jump in to chewing. We hired bike for during the day, Irwin at hotel can organise and it is a great way to get about and explore or you can walk down to the main road and jump on the Tuk tuk taxis that run between chewing and lemai. 200 baht will get you most places.
Pool was lovely especially early on in the day. The is a beach bar across the road couple of minutes walk. Also restaurants laundry and massage within a short walk just over the hill
On the whole perfect location for me and my wife and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a nice clean base for a fantastic holiday

Great as home base for a weekly visit
We stayed here for a week in a one-bedroom apartment and this is the type of place that is catering to those who stay longer. It isn't a hotel with a normal reception office, but is more an extended stay rental with the apartments designed to feel like home. The complex is really more of an apartment complex with a central courtyard that has a nice swimming pool. It is only a couple minutes walk down a small street to get to the central road of the island, and the beach is across that road. We were happy that the complex is well-maintained as well as the apartment itself. You can get breakfast and rent a scooter right next door. But do keep in mind we had to go get our own toiletries and supplies. They give you linens, pillows and bath towels which are changed every few days, but you have to provide your own toiletries (but I guess that is expected with this type of housing).

The owners are great people, always friendly. Rooms are very clean and the staff is perfect. We had excellent service from all.

We were there in early February, and this family owned and operated resort is a best buy, in my mind.
Apartment, views, and the best service we had in our three week trip in Thailand.
