I've done the exhausting research - stay here!
I’m a very careful traveler—sometimes to an exhausting level—which means I research everything thoroughly. Save yourself the time—just stay here if you care about safety, cleanliness, a perfect breakfast, including strong coffee to kick off your day, and an unbeatable location. Especially for your 1st visit to Istanbul.
I’m a solo female traveler and felt completely safe. Guests ranged from solo travelers to elderly/young couples, from around the world. My flight was delayed, and I arrived at 1 a.m., and was greeted by two smiling staff members. The rooms feel secure, and the chain lock on the door was a rare feature among the hotels I researched.
The staff are professional, kind, and respectful. Unlike some places I’ve visited, they don’t linger waiting for tips—but they definitely deserve them. They will also carry your luggage to and from your room.
Room & Bathroom
The room was spacious for two and could comfortably fit three. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel was spotless—smelled and looked clean at all times. The bathroom is small (typical for an old-city European hotel) but clean, with plenty of hot water, slippers, plush towels, and complimentary bottled water. The minibar has drinks for purchase.
Heating & Cooling
Heating and cooling require the key card in the slot, which is common in many hotels. I forgot this once due to jet lag, but the front desk fixed it instantly.
Breakfast
Breakfast had great variety and was perfect for long days of walking. I stayed in January; it opens at 7:30 a.m., just in time for a beautiful sunrise. Tip: sit by the window facing the water for a cute photo.
Location & Accessibility
The hotel is steps from cafés, restaurants, boutique shops, the Grand Bazaar (more overpriced than nearby shops), and major mosques. Although it’s directly across from the Blue Mosque, the call to prayer did not disturb my sleep. There’s no visible elevator, but only three floors with wide steps—my mother with a cane would be fine.
I had a garden-view room but barely looked out the window while exploring. If you enjoy views, book a garden or mosque-view room, but realistically, the sights are just steps away.
Overall, I’m thrilled I chose this hotel and would absolutely stay here again. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer!

Eh. I wanted to love it but was disappointed.
Our ground floor room had a bad odor (musty, moth balls + sewage.) Our bathroom towels were grey and dingy (looked like they use to be white!) , and were scratchy and threadbare. No washcloths provided. Electricity flickered on and off every couple minutes. Bathroom door and shower door were so loud it woke me when my husband went into the bathroom. It is an interesting decor and authentic to its locale but it looked tired and outdated. Could definitely use a freshening up. Location, however? Stellar! Service - excellent. View from back restaurant patio - beautiful. They even packed 6 submarine sandwiches for our group as we had a very early flight out of Istanbul.

This location is incredible and the views are beautiful.
Unfortunately, the front desk was unresponsive to my messages and not very helpful. The young man (Boris?) was excellent but the other hotel staff that helped me were not very friendly.
I have concerns about this hotel because they let my friend check into my room without seeing my passport. I didn’t provide her name she was only supposed to drop bags. They checked her into my room before I arrived. It was ok in this instance but I think the hotel needs to be more mindful of this for safety reasons.
Additionally, when I messaged the hotel 2 days before check in, I asked for airport pickup. They never replied. I took a yellow cab from the airport because of this. The young man was helpful in this circumstance but I believe the hotel manager could have handled the situation better and been more helpful. The taxi driver scammed us and yelled at us for almost an hour and the manager seemed to side with driver. He lied to me about the price and kept changing the amount owed. The hotel manager walked away and left myself and my friend to deal with it, 2 young women vs one angry taxi driver.
TLDR: it’s a lovely property but the hotel staff wasn’t responsive to my messages ahead of time, let an unauthorized person check into my room, and was generally not helpful or friendly. I would not stay here again. On my last trip to Istanbul, I the hotel had a great view, the hotel was more modern, and staff was much friendlier

Beautiful building in a fabulous location. Water views on one side and Blue Mosque on the other.
Air con was a bit underpowered and breakfast was OK not as good as most that we had in Turkey.

The location of the hotel is excellent, and it seemed to be well-maintained, but that’s about all the positives I can come up with. I’m sure in its heyday it was considered quite posh, but by today’s standards it falls well short. Irrespective of the complete nightmare of the hotel-arranged airport transfer the hotel has no elevator to atone for the difficult marble staircase with its paucity of handrails, our upgraded room was quite small, and the tiny bathroom left us flabbergasted. The inward opening door opened only far enough for a normal sized person to barely squeeze in. It would be virtually impossible for anyone with oversized dimensions to enter. The shower defies description. It consisted of a hand-held shower head over a large round ablution vessel with no drain surrounded by a u-shaped marble bench. Bizarre! Breakfast was in a very nice setting, but the fare was substandard, and we found the begging feral cats annoying. The coffee was good, though. We stayed two nights and intended to stay three more later this month when we return to Istanbul, but we will definitely not be doing that after our initial experience.
