Amazing….
What an amazing experience we had at The Alfriston celebrating my wife’s 50th Birthday with our family. From the initial enquiry with Tallulah, the showround with Helen, the arrangements with Caroline and Jessica and the superb service on the day from all of the team including Aiden, Sebastian, John and Chris. We felt at home and nothing was too much trouble for the team which created a really memorable experience. Thank you so much.

Overall disappointing
Location - excellent, Atmosphere - lovely welcome but otherwise average, Breakfast - very disappointing, poor presentation and the cooked breakfast was quite tasteless. Machine generated coffee - very poor. Evening meal, very disappointing - my wife's meal was so undercooked it had to be sent back. The same menu, which is offered for both lunch and evening meals is very basic - burger, fish and chips, steaks etc - nothing to set this hotel apart.
Overall service was disappointing - The bar service was particularly slow. Staff seemed young and inadequately trained - not their fault!
Our room was clean and generally well presented but a little tired. There was tea and coffee available on a tray but there was no cool box/ small fridge so the bottled milk provided was very warm.
We booked this hotel for a special wedding anniversary and left wishing we had booked elsewhere.

Cream tea on a sunny August afternoon
Hadn't been here since the refurbishment. We went for afternoon tea as a couple and sat in the garden, It was a lovely setting and the service was extremely attentive. All staff said hello and were very pleasant and informative. Our scones were delicious made with lemon and poppy seeds which gave them a unique and lovely flavour. Generous portions. Will return for an evening meal and definitely recommend.

Our stay at the Alfriston was lovely in a lovely part of the South Downs, a real treat for anyone looking for a relaxing stay.

Wedding anniversary celebration!
We went back for about the third time, for our anniversary. Very comfortable rooms and the spa, though small, is great.The outdoor pool was very welcome in the heatwave though there was a big group of young women drinking in the pool and they were very noisy. Food is very good though we felt that staff were stretched. We wanted to especially mention Georgie who seemed to be keeping the outside tables going during a very busy night!
