Last impressions count

I won’t take away from the fact that it’s a gorgeous venue and the wedding we went too was absolutely stunning, but the rooms were not worth the money, they weren’t the cleanest and very small. Which is what it is but what was diabolical was the service at breakfast, we waited nearly an hour for a breakfast to be served and at least half an hour to actually be served, and the actual customer service myself was horrendous, the staff were miserable, not a smile cracked between them and no manners what so ever. That was our last impression of the venue, you would think they would try a bit harder.

The flaws start to show

The place itself is quite impressive but the flaws start to show. As a wedding venue, there is loads of white gravel around, shoes are constantly a mess, ladies get stones in their sandles and long dresses get filthy. There was rarely enough staff behind the bar to cope with demand. People could not hear the speaches at the back, as they were not given a microphone (the MC was using one!!). The rooms are fairly small and not worth what they charge. On the subject of money, drinks were excpensive. Breakfast service the following morning was slow. On the positive side, there was plenty of free parking. If you are attending an event there, stay somewhere in Barnard Castle, it's only a couple of miles down the road and much cheaper.

Wedding - Great Venue, poor comms.

WEDDING PACKAGE -
Nice enough place to stay, the decor is generally good in line with their other venues. Very good for photographs etc.
It's a bit out the way but not a million miles away from Darlington.
If having a wedding, I would consider the implications should you not get / have a room for the night at the venue.
The venue and rooms are pretty well laid out for a Wedding, easy enough to rotate between the quieter bar side, the dancefloor, the rear garden / smoking area and the rooms themselves.
I do recommend a good wander around the venue, theres some nice discoveries around the place.
Although we didn't stay there, the bridal suite looked really nice.
The rooms have what you generally need, bed & shower which were all working and clean.
Communication from them however, is woeful if not painful...
As part of a wedding package, I secured two rooms which I had to chase multiple times not only booking it but to actually pay the balance on time.
We were also charged an extra £50.00 holding deposit against the rooms on the day which was not mentioned anywhere.
The bar was not cheap either, not outrageous and probably expected considering where it is. There wasn't a lot of choice of beers either but they did have a few known brand spirits etc. behind the bar.
The food however was decent for a wedding meal.
Breakfast service is painfully slow, many of us waiting almost an hour between order and food arrival so I'd consider that for your checkout time.
I will say though the wedding staff on hand are very helpful on the day, anything asked of them they'd drop to go do it and everything ran as smoothly as you could ask for give or take. There were a number of customised elements to the wedding and they fulfilled all of them without a hitch.

Beautiful venue

Stunning venue, here for a friends wedding and it’s been brilliant from start to finish room was gorgeous clean and cosy, food 10/10
