The 4-star Imperial Hotel is located in the centre of Barnstaple, overlooking the River Taw. There is a formal restaurant serving 2 and 4-course dinner, as well as relaxed dining in our Colours Bar and terrace lounge.

Top notch
Stayed at the Imperial hotel for 4 nights as part of a Shearings coach trip. Everything was beyond my expectations, after previous coach holidays.
This hotel is well maintained, clean and comfortable. It was lovely to find a mould free bathroom with everything in working order. Furthermore, the double bed was a suitable height for someone with joint issues, with plenty of supportive pillows. Coffee making facilities were provided and replenished daily.
Both breakfast and evening meal menus provided plenty of choice and the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. I could have eaten everything!
Something which made this trip a great one were the staff. Everyone was cheerful , welcoming and so willing to offer assistance. They are the strength of this hotel.
I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

2 night business stay
Lovely hotel, incredibly helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble, even asking to move room because of the noisy roadworks one of the nights. Stayed for dinner one night and had the prawn and monkfish curry which was lovely. Room was tidy, clean and very comfy

Excellent Sunday Lunch
The Imperial is situated o the edge of central Barnstaple with parking.
Level access from the front main entrance. The feeling of the hotel is traditional with old fashioned very good service.
The food too is typically traditionally for a Sunday Roast Dinner, excellent quality ingredients, well cooked and served piping hot.
The two or three course menus are very good value with a reasonable choice, there is an a La Carte menu with even more options but this is quite expensive.
Good selection of drinks but again not cheap.
Excellent clean to toilets.

exemplanary sojourn
From reception to room service, the quality of service was excellent throughout my stay. Check-in was smooth, and I had no trouble with parking or any unexpected hidden costs.
The hotel is excellently located in the city, making it easy to access, and the wonderful river view was an added bonus. The linens were clean and comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the water.
I didn’t get a chance to use the bar or restaurant myself, but I could see plenty of hotel guests enjoying them, all looking happy and relaxed with lovely smiles.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, with great service, a convenient location, and a welcoming atmosphere. I would happily stay here again.

Excellent lunch
Took a gamble because, although I live in Barnstaple, I had never been to the Imperial before. I booked a family birthday lunch for 12 people. I was hoping it would be a good experience. It was much better than that. We had a three course lunch, reasonably priced at £29pp. The food was excellent and the service all round could not have been better. We had a range of dishes between us, and everyone said how very good it was. The staff really looked after us, without being over fussy. A definite five stars from me.
