Old world values in a beautiful, modern setting

From the moment we arrived at this beautifully located hotel, we knew we had made the right choice. Although we were part of a classic car group that took over nearly the entire hotel for the week, we were looked after as individuals. We were offered assistance with our bags on arrival and genuinely made to feel welcome by the owner at what is a friendly, family run establishment. A refreshing change in an increasingly faceless, corporate world.
Our sea facing room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped with an enormous, sunny balcony with two each of loungers and chairs. The food throughout the week was fresh, tasty and varied.
My only suggestion would be to offer a bottle of spring water in the room as not everyone feels comfortable drinking tap water.
I would definitely stay again if in the area for a guaranteed relaxing stay with a beautiful and ever changing view across the estuary. There are also many places of interest to explore nearby.

Excellent clean and tidy hotel

This is an excellent well run very clean and tidy hotel. We had a balcony room on the first floor at the front of the hotel with wonderful views across the estuary with breakfast and evening dinner included for the four night stay. Breakfast was excellent but the evening dinner menu was very repetitive which was a shame. My wife has coeliac disease with the hotel staff going the extra mile to ensure she only was given gluten free meals during our stay. With two stand out staff members being Gary who helped with our bags on arrival along with many other things during our stay and a French lady ( so sorry we forgot her name it’s an age thing) at dinner who both couldn’t do enough to make our stay special thank you.

A Hotel with a View

Easy to find location with ample parking. Amazing view over the harbour with a constantly changing scene as the tide went in and out. Busy harbour with lots to see on the water.
We were in Room 26, lovely big suite on the ground floor with a private patio. Very quiet. Surprised there was no fridge in the room. Very squeaky bed when either of us rolled over or got up. Light over basin flickering, resolved very quickly. Soft fluffy towels and toiletries. No space to put your own toiletries off of the floor to enable cleaning, but resolved. We chose to have the room serviced every other day but full facilities were available.
Restaurant food was excellent, with a good choice for breakfast and dinner.
We thought the price was a bit expensive for the suite.
After the heavy rain there was a musty smell in the room, the wardrobes had air fresheners in them so we presumed had been mentioned before.l

The Commodore is a fabulous hotel!

The Commodore is a stunningly good hotel! The staff are amazing; nothing is too much trouble! The location is simply beautiful. If you select a room with a marine view, you will enjoy a constantly changing seascape over towards Appledore and beyond.
Facilities for the disabled and those with mobility needs are excellent, but you do need to choose your room carefully; there isn’t a lift to the 1st and 2nd floors of the hotel.
My wife and I found the food in the restaurant to be excellent. An extremely good breakfast was included in our room tariff and lunch and dinner were also available if required. Immediate access to the beautiful Tarka Trail was at the bottom of the hotel drive, so my wife and I were able to go out every day on our wheelchair bike and cycle for miles and miles on this magnificent trail! We were allowed to store our bike securely, undercover
in the main body of the hotel for which we were extremely grateful!
We will definitely be returning to the Commodore Hotel; we had a fabulous six nights…thank you so much!

Old fashioned service and charm in a perfect location

The Commodore is a charming, traditional family-run British seaside hotel. The location is absolutely wonderful right on the beach at Instow, the staff are attentive, the breakfast is delicious and all the staff go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I was there on a work trip (lucky me!) but would definitely return for a holiday.
