Home from home

If you would like a Premier Inn they are available in Torbay but if you want olde worlde Brixham charm and a home from home, this is the place for you! Not all of the rooms have a harbour view, my room was in the courtyard at the back but it was very comfortable with my own stair case, the usual tea, coffee, samsung tv and a very welcome air con unit! a newish bathroom with a good shower. I enjoyed lovely breakfasts too served by Barry and Nicky, the dining room does have a view over the quayside.

great view and location but sadly lacking else where

I was very disappointed after reading some good reviews, but looking again I see that the same problems I experienced have not been addressed by the owners.
Room 2 was dirty and smelt fusty. The shower room was awful and grubby, rusty radiator, filthy mouldy grout and flooring. The main room was so tiny and window dirty, curtains not hung properly, carpet and paintwork grubby.
This appears the same in most of the building communal areas.
Staff were nice, linin was clean, breakfast was adequate.
Shame they dont seem to correct these problems.
I wouldn’t recommend it sadly

A few issues that need improvement

Myself and my husband have been to Brixham many times over the years and know the area well. We decided to have a two night break away and came across Harbour View on the internet. Reading the good reviews and knowing the excellent location, we decided to book.
Unfortunately, we cannot agree with some of the highly rated reviews and comments.
The positives, like most people have said, were the location and beautiful views of the harbour. The staff were lovely and accommodating but we did only see them at breakfast time. Check-in was fine but impersonal.
Our room was unavoidably very small, but the bed was clean and comfortable. The issue though was the black mould around the bottom/outside of the shower cubicle and the damp mouldy floor. Also, the window frames were black with mould too. We were in room 2, first floor and by the fire exit door on the landing, the plaster was coming off the walls and ceiling and this was very unsightly. The final negative point is the fact that dogs are allowed in the small dining room area at breakfast time. I’m a dog lover but for people who are not or are allergic to animals, this isn’t good.
The mould and fire escape could be easily remedied but in its current condition I would definitely not stay here again.

Lovely staff. Patchy breakfast. Terrible room.

I was quite disappointed by my room (not cheap at a little over £138) which was not in the main building but in the back yard overlooking the kitchen. (I had to keep my curtains closed in this small window for privacy). I was first down for breakfast and the only diner in the room. I waited about 15 minutes for the full cooked breakfast that wasn’t so full. Given that it’s a small guest house, I was disappointed that the bacon, a miserly one, dried up rasher that must have been pre-cooked. The mushroom looked like they had equally been mistreated. The sausage was cheap-tasting, lacking in texture and had only been properly cooked on 50% of its length. The baked beans were OK. The ‘sunny side up’ request delivered a fried egg with its yolk flat and solid. The coffee, in a single-serving cafetiere, was very good.

Welcoming hosts. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances we weren't able to stay. The welcome was great. The room looked clean and comfortable with harbour view.
