Hidden gem, welcoming, attentive staff.

Augill Castle is a hidden gem just a few minutes from the A66 near Brough. We stayed en route to Argyll, Scotland. From arrival to departure we were made extremely welcome. We had a beautiful room with a views over the garden and the hills beyond. We had a delicious evening meal and breakfast, the waitresses were attentive and anything we or other guests requested was served without any problem whatsoever.
We will certainly stay again, Thank you to everyone at Augill for making our stay perfect.

Magical

Stunning place to stay.
I arranged this stay for my husbands 50th birthday surprise. We arrived on the train and had pre booked a taxi to take us from the train station to the castle. Thank you to Lucy who I called to book and who advised me of this and gave me local taxi numbers. We arrived before check in time and were greeted by Meg. She was so lovely and friendly and welcoming. Our room wasn’t immediately ready, which we never expected we just were hoping to have a drink and enjoy the gardens first, but they did double check and the room was ready early for us which was lovely. Meg showed us around everywhere and honestly every room was amazing.
We stayed in Pendragon four poster room which was beautiful. The bathroom has a lovely deep roll top bath.
We stayed on a Monday night, we knew the restaurant isn’t fully open but there is still a small menu for food.
Food was nice but I’d love to return when the full restaurant is open as the menu looks amazing.
Plenty of choice at the bar for drinks.
Breakfast was lovely too.
When we checked out of our room, we weren’t getting picked up again till a few hours later so our bags were kept safe and we stayed around the gardens and went for a little walk. We also had afternoon tea before our departure.
We will definitely return to this magical place. So friendly and welcoming, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Thank you so much to everyone at the castle I’m sorry I didn’t remember all your names.

Nicola
Thank you for your kind words. We are so delighted you had a good time and enjoyed all of what we do. I’m particularly happy you enjoyed staying in pendragon with the two turrets (complete with one set of antlers!). It’s always a special treat to be part of someone else’s special treat.
We shall look forward to welcoming you back and I’ll be on my best cheffy behaviour!

Augill Castle Tea

Today we used a voucher, given to us as a gift for afternoon tea at Augill Castle. What a treat. Lovely situation, super team and an excellent tea. We requested a savoury selection to be included which I can highly recommend. We will be back and certainly encourage our friends to visit. Thank you.

Still cosy after all these years

It’s been 14 years since we were last at Augill, then with our children. A few things have changed but essentially Augill stays the same - like life in general, a little chipped and frayed around the edges but at its heart, warm and generous. Rooms are spacious and plush: wonderful bed, country home antiques, a sofa and fireplace, trunk table, old suitcases as character decoration. Breakfasts are good and the lighter supper you choose when the restaurant is closed early in the week is more than adequate. Staff are all friendly and room prices are remarkable value for the experience, which remains priceless.

We have tried so hard to retain the Augill magic and I’m thrilled you found it still.
Simon would be thrilled. I am. My lovely staff delighted.

Romantic' peaceful' refreshing

I travel extensively with work and have the freedom to book some fantastic and sometimes unique places staying in 100s of hotels all year round' my short stay at Augill was not this time for business but a short getaway for my better half's birthday' I can tell you with conviction if you are looking for a place with romance ' beautifull grounds 'lots of character as well as a touch of class then this is the place for you ' the most delightful thing we found was that for an old building with lots of stairs' room's and hallways steeped in character ' our short stay was blissfully peaceful and the staff are very welcoming and helpful ' I would highly recommend booking a short break here ' and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to review.
What a joy it is to look after guests who just get it. You delighted in everything we do and that reflects on your experience and ours. It was such a pleasure to welcome you to our eccentric little corner of Eden and we shall so look forward to welcoming you back.
