Great food for a two night stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of January during a very wet spell. The hotel/pub is a very old building on the banks of the River Dart. Our room had a river view which was in full spate. The room was spacious, warm and comfortable with a sofa and good lighting. The shower room was fairly small but clean with a good hot shower. The staircase took us down to the restaurant next to which was a small bar area. Breakfast was cooked to order with quality ingredients and generous portions. The staff were very friendly and efficient and we ate there both evenings. Our meals on both nights were excellent with good quality ingredients and home cooking. Car parking was a short walk from the entrance with plenty of room. We were only a minutes drive from Buckfast Abbey where entry is free and a huge car park. We would certainly stay here again.

Very nice!

This Inn had, in our opinion, only been taken over by a new owner. That was evident in the, partly, still inexperienced staff. But everyone tried very hard and was very helpful and cordial. We therefore enjoyed ourselves more than fine. The location is not far from the highway, and you can hear that in the background during the day, but is not very disturbing. The Inn is right next to the Dart River. That makes it very nice to sit on the terrace. The terrace and pub are also frequented by many locals, which is very cozy. Buckfastleigh is a small place with a lovely Abbey. Nearby is also a station from where a steam train runs to Totnes. Very nice to do. Furthermore, the area is very nice with Dartmoor nearby. In the evenings, something is regularly organized in the pub, such as live music or a quiz. We had a great room with private bathroom.

A lovely location, doesn’t look much from front but opens out on to a beautiful river at back. Delightful place , good food & hospitality was very good. Thankyou to Jake & Sarah for a short but wonderful experience. I’ll be back !

Lovely riverside location

Overnight stop on way to Cornwall booked using a Red Letter Days gifted voucher. Great riverside location and characterful old building with a nice welcome in the bar. Communal areas were clean as was our small double, en-suite room on the top floor, which had a side on view of the river. Eat elsewhere as advised only pizza was available that night and didn't fancy that, but the breakfast was great. Overall, good value for the normal rate as stated on the hotel confirmation but we were disappointed by Red Letter Days who obviously pocketed the £35 difference (over a third of the value) on the voucher which was a gift from work colleagues. No option to upgrade a better room within the voucher value. That seems to be the rip off way these RLD vouchers work so will be leaving them an appropriate review!

Worst experience ever

Arrived after travelling 71/2 hours on motorway in horrendous conditions. My son rang to try and check in for us and get the key and was told he couldn’t do that because she didn’t know if we had paid. Was paid in full via booking.com.
We arrived with 15 minutes to spare and were greeted very frostily. Given a key and was told that the bar was closing at 10.00 and we were not allowed downstairs as it would all be alarmed. Was told room was on top floor and had to find our own way. Asked if there was anywhere that could deliver food but was told no and that was it. We were told if we went out of the front door not to take the snip off as it was broken so door was not locked for 2 of the nights we stayed there.
Had asked for disabled parking but no one got back to us. Our room, up 4 flights of stairs.. no lift was ‘snug’. Overlooked the river which we requested. The en-suite shower room had an ice bucket on the floor collecting water dripping from the extractor fan. Breakfast was an experience. Last night of 4 night stay .. we got back from saying goodbye to the family to find there was no heating in any of the residential part of the inn. It was a stormy night Could go on but think I want to put the whole debacle behind me. Could be renamed ‘fawlty towers’
