Great hotel, super helpful staff lovely village, with peacocks roaming the village freely. The hotels food was excellent would highly recommend this hotel

Stylish pub hotel in pleasant village

A one night anniversary stay which we very much enjoyed. A well presented boutique room with pleasant lighting and a large bath. A nice mixture of indoor and outdoor dining and drinking areas. An interesting menu with sufficient vegan options for us. The plant based breakfast was large and well prepared too. Service friendly and helpful. Not cheap, but not exorbitant and breakfast in the room rate and two complimentary drinks made a difference. Free parking and a village, roamed by peacocks, to explore. Would recommend

Pitch perfect experience

Our large family celebration - held in a welcoming private room, with doors opening onto the terrace - turned out the perfect occasion. Excellent food, warm, generous and attentive staff and an exquisite setting made it into the event we had hoped for. It all ran like clockwork. Thank you to the Team at the Methuen Arms.

Worth a visit if in the area

We had lunch here today and it was excellent.
There were several menus ro pick from, a set £20 menu, the al la carte and a lunch menu. All offered a good selection of options to cater for everyone.
I ordered the half lobster and the second dish was a Caesar salad - both weee excellent. Good service. Highly recommend.

I booked this place whilst travelling for a work. Marked as ‘luxury’ by hotels.com but it was anything but! Upon arrival I was greeted by a rude and unbothered staff member - gave 0 information, didn’t talk to us about breakfast or even show us where our room was (which was in the courtyard) & then proceeded to tell me I needed to pay for the room again, despite already paying via hotels.com - she said to take it up with them.
The room was okay - bed was nice but for the price of a country hotel I expected better bedding etc. There were stickers and notes on several things saying ‘do not take home with you’ which again didn’t say ‘luxury’ to me haha. The room was a little tired with paint chips and marks but added to the character a little.
Dinner was tasty - we had the vegan pasta and the menu had some great vegan options for us which is rare when travelling. We were given a voucher for 2 free drinks which were house wine, beer, prosecco or a soft drink. We used it during dinner to find out that peach iced tea isn’t classed in their soft drinks which was a bit frustrating.
Post-dinner we had a margarita and espresso martini. The espresso martini was one of the worst I’ve ever had! Later I realised that they had mentioned turning off their coffee machine to us mid way through dinner & instead of explaining this when we ordered an espresso martini - they just made it without the espresso!!
Breakfast was tasty :)
Overall, disappointing stay and wouldn’t return
