Excellent place to stay!! All very clean and comfortable. Bus stop a few meters away with direct buses to the center. Very friendly and attentive owner. I've been there several times. Very good prices. I recommend 100%.

Poor

Very poor first impression of the room. The bedding was completely mismatched—the duvet was oversized for a single bed and didn’t fit the cover properly, like a super king duvet crammed into a double cover. A total nightmare if you value comfort and attention to detail.

Cheap, but not very pleasant

Pros:
Good location, decently clean, well-equipped kitchen, nice small outdoor area, free Wi-Fi. Cheap
Cons:
No mirrors in bathrooms, no bedside lights in rooms, £20 cash deposit for key, not great signage, no lockers or storage spaces in rooms, no lock on front door. Room smells funky

Aggressive host

Host was aggressive and unreasonable. Dirty. Bed was old and broken. Wifi unreliable. Host angry. I was disappointed. Host made me feel uneasy. I found a better cheaper place in the centre. The woman host behaved bad.

Smelly Laundry

Terrible experience from the start really, due to the fact that i put a lot of faith in the west side hostel as I was really ecxited to visit Edinburgh for the first time and endulge upon its culture. This hostel, or should I say the receptionist wrecked my weekend break with a piercing, gung-ho attitude. Threating to turn the hot water off on the guests and I think spat in my cup of tea when I wasn’t looking, felt more like an halfway house and was a unrespectful experience for me, which is a shame.
