A day to remember ...
This is a very expensive, luxury wedding venue where a couple’s big-day is the centre of attention. And on the day of the wedding we attended, everything was superb. The grounds and hotel were immaculately clean, manicured and welcoming. The crew worked with supreme efficiency to the bride n groom’s timetable. The guest rooms were beautifully turned-out (the curtains could have been closed though to cool the rooms from the fierce heat outside). The food throughout the day was excellent, especially considering it’s a mass-catering event. Not only tasty, but hot and well portioned too. Breakfast on the surrounding days was a quality offering also.
This purpose built wedding venue is run on strict commercial terms; that’s fair enough. But I feel they got the balance wrong, in the run up to the wedding, as it seemed their focus was on maximising revenue rather than putting the happy-couple’s needs at the centre of the booking. That said, the most important thing was the wedding day itself and for that, I commend the crew and leadership of Ely old hall for giving the bride n groom and their guests a day to remember.

Beautiful setting, disappointing customer service
Beautiful setting, disappointing customer service
The location and property are truly beautiful, and the rooms are good and certainly clean. Overall, it lives up to its four-star rating in terms of facilities.
Unfortunately, where the hotel completely fell short was in its customer service. This felt less like a one-off issue and more like a lack of training and understanding of how to treat guests.
During our stay, we were told by a member of staff that we could have a late checkout. However, when the time came, we were asked to leave the room and then told that no such arrangement had been made. I would have completely understood if they had explained that the staff member did not have the authority or that availability had changed. What was upsetting was being made to feel as though I was being untruthful.
When I tried to explain the situation, several staff members were brought together to effectively challenge my account, which created an uncomfortable and embarrassing situation for everyone involved — including the staff member who had originally spoken to me. It did not feel like appropriate or professional handling of a guest concern.
To make matters worse, I was later told that I had not paid for breakfast, despite having done so the day before. I had to open my banking app and show proof of payment. Again, this left me feeling unfairly questioned.
It’s a real shame, as the location is wonderful and the hotel has the potential to offer a lovely experience. In my view, the junior staff seemed willing and caring, but there are clear issues at a management level. I would strongly recommend improved training and a more guest-focused approach before I could recommend staying here.

Small wedding lunch party at The Old Hall Ely
We had a wonderful experience celebrating our small wedding with a lunch party at The Old Hall Ely. The staff were kind, friendly, and welcoming, creating a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere.
A special thank you to Ili for being so helpful and responsive during the planning process over email—it made everything feel smooth and stress-free.
The private dining room was perfect for our family celebration, and the venue itself is beautifully maintained throughout. The gardens are stunning, with incredible views of Ely Cathedral.
Delicious food and wine made the day even more special. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate.

Lovely hotel .
Lovely hotel , stayed in Mulbery room which was beautiful.
Immaculately clean .
Ate in the restaurant on the Friday and it was an Italian menu , I am vegetarian , the stuffed mushrooms were delicious.
Wanted to eat the second night in the restaurant but it was the same menu and so not much variation which was slightly disappointing that you couldn’t choose from the regular a la carte menu . Asked if we could have sandwiches but was told not possible so slightly disappointed we had to go out for dinner thar evening.
Breakfast also finishes at 9am ( quite early at the weekend ) and it was long tables so you had to sit next to other people on the same table which I’d rather have not .
Apart from those few minor things it really was a lovely break away and I would stay there again .

90th Birthday
I recently enjoyed a perfect celebration of my 90th birthday at The Old Hall and I cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention given to me and my family by all the staff. I had 80 guests for lunch in the Orangery - the food was delicious with good choices and the venue has fabulous views across to Ely Cathedral. My very special thanks to Aimee and Ili - nothing was too much trouble for them.
This was my second lunch party in the past year at The Old Hall, and all my guests without exception have been so complimentary and say they would definitely choose this venue for any celebrations they may have in the future.
