Staff were so nice it hurt

Brilliant place and brilliant staff, enthusiastic, kind and super engaged in the story of the castle, a real gem. Lots of walks and breathtaking views

Family trip

St Briavels is an amazing place to stay. On arrival we met Lottie and Mark, two very friendly and helpful Staff. Lottie gave us a, quick tour of the castle and we stayed 4 nights, using the site as, a base to visit friends in Bristol. The villageand surrounding area is pretty. The place is close to the amazing Forest of Dean, which we visited. Go Ape and the Perrydown railway is close by, there is also a cave and mine.
Would recommend this place 100% and wil be returning.

Steep stairs but lovely setting

Firstly it's a castle so a good experience! However please note the stairs for some rooms are very steep and stone!!!! If you cannot climb this then ask for a lower ground room. The rooms are clean and mostly bunk beds ,comfy mattresses usually yha hostels mattresses not the most comfy . Decent self catering facilities and friendly staff. Thanks to the man who re arranged our room as our elderly mum could never have managed those stairs in east tower! Lovely location quite. We didn't feel any paranormal activity sadly but we only wanted to stay in a castle experience.

It is always advisable to pop some notes on your booking detailing any specific restrictions you have as YHA has so many varied types of buildings.
It is good to hear that Mark managed to find you a more suitable room: the Chaplains Quarters at the top of the stairs in the East Tower is a challenge for even the most agile guest.

One of the coolest places we have ever stayed at!

Wow!...spending 3 nights in an actual castle at an affordable price was pretty amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the castle itself was clean, warm and had everything we needed. It was also great to get to roam around the castle during the day, before the rooms filled up at check in!!
There are some beautiful walks nearby that are peaceful and wonderful. Thanks for such a memorable visit! :)
