Mold in the bedroom, small breakfast

I Stayed 2 nights at kestor inn, Manaton Dartmoor during my hiking trip. I arrived at around 4pm only to find the place completely shut and no one available to check me in. Upon checking my email I realised that their check in starts from 17:30 which is extremely late especially after a long drive. The room that I was given was situated at the back of the pub/inn. It was a big enough room however there was evidence of Mold on the bedroom ceiling and also at the top of the window. There was also evidence of animal fur/dog fur on the cushions. Luckily i am not allergic to dog fur but found it unpleasant and unhygienic. The downside of having a room not connected to the main building means that I had to walk out in the rain to access the main building for food.
I was told that breakfast starts from 8am, yet the entrance was shut when I went in at 8am. I phoned the number on my booking but there was no answer. So I went back to the room and started prepping my hiking gears. At 8:15 I went outside to check and found the owner smoking outside and he invited me in for breakfast. On the first day I ordered the vegetarian breakfast option but without the veggie sausage. I also asked for this to be replaced by one more egg or a hash brown however when the breakfast arrived I only received one small poached egg and one hash brown. I was baffled by the child size breakfast portion that was served to me with a very small amount of baked beans and mushrooms. Seriously you wouldn’t think that they were serving an adult here.
Luckily i got given two slices of toasts which made up for the meagre portion otherwise i would have been very hungry. On my second day, the breakfast size was a bit better and i ordered scrambled eggs this time as i didn’t want a meagre poached egg. I also had dinner there and ordered the seafood Thermidor. When my food arrived i was pleasantly surprised. It tasted nice with plenty of cheesy sauce however there was no side dish served with it. Traditional a Thermidor is served with either chips, salad or vegetable to balance the strong flavours and for this price I expected this to be included. So, I had to request for some bread to dip in the sauce instead. On a positive note, the owner was friendly and welcoming and the room was nicely equipped with the required necessities such as tea/coffee, biscuits on arrival, hairdryer and toiletries but there is still room for improvement.

Miserable host

We tried to have a meal at this pub as it seemed to have achieved some good reviews and commented on the friendly hosts!
Telephone signal in the area is dreadful, so we did respond on their contact page requesting a restaurant booking for 2 persons the following evening.
We did find some reception the following afternoon, so telephoned the Inn, but there was no answer only got to get to leave a voicemail.
We turned up for our table just before 8pm, saying we had a booking, but the gentleman behind the bar met us with an abrupt NO, we thought he was joking. However it became apparent he wasn’t. He carried on stating he had no bookings, chef had gone home (yet there were people eating in the bar).
We mentioned that we’d emailed, he wouldn’t have any of it, just flatly said no he had no booking, so there’s no food here now. We left!
Definitely not a pleasant man, no customer service or desire to assist.
Suggest he removes his contact page as clearly doesn’t check. Very unprofessional.

Lovely bar and atmosphere comfortable rooms, very peaceful

Very friendly bar and welcome. Food was really good and atmosphere great. Dog friendly pub and it showed but did not distract from it at all. We stayed overnight in the ground floor dog friendly room which was large with a comfy bed and great shower. One issue for us but this was acknowledged. We would most definitely go back.
