Check in staff great ad very polite. Plenty of staff in the restaurant during evening meal and breakfast. Not rushed service which was nice.

Birthday Spa Nightmare — We Left Without Staying Overnight
⭐ 1 STAR — because we have to give one star
!!! Extremely disappointing spa experience
This was booked for me as a birthday surprise— a spa day AND overnight stay. ❤️ I was really excited and expected a relaxing day, beautiful spa facilities and a peaceful night away.
Unfortunately, the experience was so disappointing that we checked out and left and did not stay overnight.
We had seen a flyer in our hotel room advertising £25pp discounted thermal spa entry for hotel guests, so we asked about accessing it. We were initially told it would be £60pp, which we were prepared to pay. However, a manager then told us not to bother because it was almost 6pm and the thermal spa would soon be opened to everyone anyway, so we were given the access code. We did not pay for the upgrade; we offered to, but were told there was no point.
The thermal spa was described as offering things such as state-of-the-art thermal experiences, a hibernation lounge, Finnish sauna, steam rooms, mineral grotto, ice fountain, bubbling spa pool/hydrotherapy and Mud Rasul.
Unfortunately, this was very far from what we actually experienced.
❌ Foot spas — missing/not available
❌ Mud chamber — marked DND, cold and completely empty with no mud
❌ Treatment room — unlocked but essentially an unfinished area with rubble
❌ Rainforest showers — not working, with visible grime/green build-up
❌ Both steam rooms — cold and switched off
❌ Sauna — not in use
❌ Hydro pool — significant grime/green build-up around the edging and drainage
❌ Spa fixtures — visible rust, corrosion and grime
❌ Multiple areas undergoing major refurbishment
❌ Building materials, rubble and unfinished areas around the leisure facilities
❌ Hibernation room — still hibernating! The entrance was blocked by a faux plant and wasn’t accessible
❌ Ice bowl — no ice! Just an extremely stained/corroded-looking metal bowl
❌ Another large room was completely barricaded off with faux living-wall plants
There was also no clear disclosure beforehand about the extent of the refurbishment or the number of facilities that were unavailable.
The arrival experience wasn’t much better.
We asked for robes because… it’s a spa day?! We were told absolutely not and that robes were for spa guests. We asked whether we could hire them — no.
We also weren’t told beforehand that we needed a £1 coin for the lockers. When we asked for change, we were told they didn’t have any and that we could leave our bags poolside.
We weren’t comfortable doing that, so we were sent to the bar, only to be told the building was completely cashless and they couldn’t help. Eventually, a lovely golfer overheard us and went outside to ask around for a £1 coin for us. He was genuinely lovely, but we were absolutely mortified.
There was also very little/no signage directing first-time visitors to the thermal spa. We were walking around trying to work out where we were supposed to go and, when we eventually found someone to ask, we were essentially pointed in the direction.
The difference between the professional photographs online and the reality was genuinely shocking.
Other people using the facilities were also openly complaining about how much wasn’t working and how badly the spa had deteriorated.
We were told by regular users that refurbishment work had apparently been started and stopped after COVID due to funding issues. I cannot independently verify that, so I’m only repeating what other guests told us.
I have existing health issues which mean I have to be particularly cautious about cleanliness and potential infection risks. After seeing the visible rust, grime, staining and green/black build-up around the wet areas and pool drainage, I decided that my health was more important than trying to force myself to enjoy the experience.
We spoke to reception, logged our concerns and left requesting a refund. Rachel the receptionist agreed with our reasoning- she was lovely.
We did not stay overnight.
This was supposed to be a lovely birthday surprise and instead we ended up leaving disappointed and frustrated.
I’m leaving this review because I wish someone had warned me before booking. If you’re considering a spa day or spa break here, I would strongly recommend checking exactly which facilities are currently operational before booking and not relying solely on the promotional photographs. To be honest not even bleach could clean this place up to standard avoid!!!

The hotel is in huge need of refurbishment. The rooms are standard and basic. Only one pillow provided for each guest on the bed.
At breakfast there were loads of dirty dishes left out on tables, tables weren’t cleaned and new cutlery wasn’t put out for the next person. The food was running low and was only replaced when someone had to ask a member of staff. The glasses were dirty to drink from.

Would not return
Hotel is tired and our room was noisy with a generator of something running at times during the night. Staff were helpful and friendly but the evening menu was very limited. Breakfast was average and only one coffee machine which did not have decaf. Floor was dirty from the night before and we had to hunt around for coffee mugs. The golf was OK considering the drought and the swimming area was very nice. It used to be a great resort.

Rooms are spotless clean & comfortable. The Congo Rapids mini golf is fantastic. Pool is OK but in my opinion needs a bit of refresh.
Staff at the reception are pleasant & helpful. The restaurant however is a big let down. We had lunch, dinner & breakfast ..the food is just OK, all members of staff look like they are wondering what you are doing there; not unpleasant, just not interested at all. In all fairness though there was one young lady at breakfast time who was friendly and helpful.
