Fantastic stay

What a lovely place to stay when we arrived the host was very welcoming and very friendly which put us at ease. Everything in the stay was fantastic. The rooms were large and everything was supplied and the breakfast was varied and welcoming. We really enjoyed our time there and we definitely look atreturning.

The booking was cancelled with less than 48 hours notice - a long planned holiday spoilt

My wife, had obtained time off from her NHS hospital and was going on a long planned long weekend with our daughter who has health problems. We received written notification (which the owner signed with a rather inappropriate kiss) with less than 48 hours notice that our booking was cancelled. They declined to speak to us on the telephone, which we found remarkably discourteous given the circumstances. They sent 2 alternative accommodation suggestions, via the booking website, leaving us to follow these up ourselves, when we felt it was their responsibility to source something of an equal or higher standard. One of the suggestions was comically inappropriate, and the second had many rooms available, perhaps because on Tripadvisor it had a significant number of “Terrible“ ratings including photos of peeling plaster, cracked sinks and tiles, etc. Given the short notice in the middle of August, it was not possible to find anything remotely suitable in the local area. Bowlish House simply referred us back to the third-party booking website we had booked through. There was no follow-up to find out how things had gone for my wife and daughter. Given the unreliability and discourtesy we felt we received, and despite other positive reviews, we would be very reluctant to ever book with Bowlish House again. Certainly not for an important event such as a big birthday or a wedding. Nevertheless, booking directly with Bowlish House, rather than through a third-party website, would ensure that the contract was with Bowlish House so that one would be covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, as well as being able to pursue other remedies were a similar situation to arise again.

A hidden treasure

I had the most lovely experience in beautiful Bowlish House in July.
The owner was so welcoming, helpful and friendly… she made us feel completely “ at home”.
The attention to detail , character and cleanliness in our 4 bedrooms, was excellent.
We enjoyed leisurely breakfasts and relaxing evenings in the comfortable and elegant rooms…. It really felt like “ home”.(especially the adorable dog)
Thank you to the owner for such genuine hospitality.

Unmade beds

A very pretty, comfortable place to stay. Well stocked breakfast with plenty of choice. However after a long day out visiting friends and seeing lots of local attractions we were surprised to discover that our room had not been made up. We found Maryanne who came up immediately but told us that we should have asked for the room to be made up, I then said that I had never heard of a hotel needing that request and she informed me that they are not a hotel but are a B&B. Trip Advisor you need to amend your classification and would be patrons please be aware of this.

Hi Tony, I hope you are Michelle are both well and had a pleasant journey home.
I must address the inaccuracies in your comments. I spoke with you at breakfast and specifically asked, as I do with all my guests, if you would like your room refreshed. I particularly mentioned your bed in which you explicitly requested that "only a towel replacement was required"; Our guests privacy is extremely important to us, with this in mind, I nipped into your room to replace your towels. I would have very happily made up your bed. I'm not too sure how much clearer I could have been when asking your preference? Additionally, a housekeeping door hanger was available in your room, which you did not utilise. Maybe you didn’t see it, in which case I will point it out to future guests.
In regards to our pricing, the cost of your room was inline with a well known nearby budget friendly hotel during your dates. Absolutely no shade on these style of hotels but we have very different business models. It’s a shame you didn’t appreciate your complimentary room upgrade, our beautiful facilities, gardens, art library, bar and Orangery or all the lovingly sourced treats in your room including unlimited coffee pods for the coffee machine, herbal teas and even mini bottles of Babysham.
Bowlish House clearly wasn’t the place for you, you were rude, aggressive and actually made me feel extremely uncomfortable when speaking with me. Moving forward I urge you to consider how you interact with others, especially when you are in their home.
I love Bowlish House, my beautiful, cherished business…. Welcoming guests to this very special space makes my heart sing and I won’t allow one sadly untrue comment to blight this beautiful little haven I’ve created.
