Charming cottage accommodation in a beautiful setting

Our 5-night stay at Maplestone was a delight. Alan is a generous and hospitable host, extremely knowledgeable about the region, from which we benefited greatly. The property was clean, comfortable and quiet - our cottage accommodation (sitting room, bedroom and beautifully renovated new bathroom) was comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated throughout. Alan prepared delicious breakfasts, where we enjoyed meeting other guests. We also enjoyed making use of the very pretty and well-maintained garden area. Highly recommended and somewhere we will definitely return to if in the area

An absolutely perfect B&B. Great place from which to explore.

Let's start with admitting that, at a time when Frome, Castle Cary and Bruton have been experiencing a lot of growth, with new arts venues and restaurants, and a tide of DFLs (Down From Londoners) causing a growth in house prices and the availability of ethically sourced organic focaccia... Shepton Mallet has seen better days. But it still has the old Prison to tour (seen in Paddington II ), a few decent cheap restaurants, and is well placed as a centre from which to visit Bath, Wells and this area of Somerset. You can easily drive to Stourhead, Longleat, The Newt and lots of other places.
This gem of a B&B allows you to tour around without staying above a noisy pub or at an overpriced "Boutique" hotel. Alan has run B&Bs for many years and knows what he is doing. He greeted us with tea and cake, useful information about where to eat and what to see, and tactful interest in what our plans were. We were shown to a very large comfortable bedroom with good linen and a king sized bed. The shower worked well and, given the heatwave, the fan was useful. We were able to sit in the small cottage garden. Breakfast on the next two days was excellent. A good FEB and toast, and an excellent selection of fruit and granolas/mueslis, eaten in a sympathetically decorated dining room.
This is absolutely the perfectly calibrated experience. Comfortable and responsive, but discrete and subtle. We will definitely return

Lovely stay in great spot

A lovely and quiet spot only 5 mins from the high street. Alan is the perfect host who is very attentive and does a great breakfast with produce from a butcher in nearby Wells. He is also very knowledgeable about the local area and gave us plenty of tips about visiting nearby attractions such as Cheddar Gorge, Wells and Bath
We stayed in The Potting Shed which is attached to what is a row of 17th century cottages and has it's own entrance and a sitting room as well as a nice shower room and king size bed
The room had everything we needed including a mini fridge, hair dryer and bath robes. There was also a table and chairs outside which was great for sitting in the lovely enclosed garden during the day and of an evening. This is the first time I have visit Somerset properly and if returning would definitely stay here again

Great time !

Another revisit for both of us to Maplestone. A superb accommodation in secluded surroundings. Alan is the perfect host and provides a great variety for breakfast. The rooms have a timeless quality to them and the garden is nice and relaxing. Alan is a mine of information and will give advice on places to visit locally and further afield.
Thank you Alan
