Hotel Cromwell Stevenage was once a farm house and home to John Thurloe, secretary to Oliver Cromwell. The property is located on Stevenage Old Town High Street, close to the A1(M) and just 10 minutes’ drive from Knebworth Park.

Pretty good value and quality.
Stayed for one night at the end of May 2026 en route to Towcester. (Executive double £150 BnB including car parking).
Firstly, the hotel is deceptively large - looks pretty big anyway from the front - but the true vastness of the place is evident from the car park at the rear. On the subject of car parking, when I looked on google map it looks like you can drive in from the front of the hotel however it looks like they're having an addition built which means you can't. It's the next road, if driving from the North, on the left that takes you to the well signposted rear car park entrance.
At the moment, I assume this will change when the building work is finished, you have to take your cases etc from the car park right round the outside of the building to get to the hotel entrance. Not a major issue - but it could be improved if there was a rear entrance to the hotel.
The room itself was good. Large, with a view over the rear beer garden and car park. A couple of easy chairs and a desk chair. Plenty of power sockets (on each side of the bed) and a few more scattered around. An excellent powerful shower in the large bathroom. The whole place was very clean and fully stocked will all that you need. We were not disturbed by any noise at all - which considering it was a baking hot Saturday night at the end of half term was pretty good.
Breakfast was a buffet style one - which was OK, although maybe it could have been kept a bit hotter.
The only minor issue we had was with the WiFi - the one we were told to use didn't work which the very helpful young lass on reception assisted with by giving us another one to sign into - sadly that didn't work the next day. Not a deal breaker - just a mild irritation.
The high street in Stevenage itself where the hotel is located has a load of shops, cafes and pubs to keep you going and the ones we went in were all pretty good.
When we visited the high street was closed off halfway down meaning there was very little traffic - that may be different when it reopens.
All in all - very good. I'd stay there again.

We recently held our wedding at The Cromwell in Stevenage, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.
From the initial planning through to the wedding itself, the staff were absolutely amazing. Every member of the team went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly and that we could simply relax and enjoy our special day. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and every request was met with a smile and a genuine willingness to help.
The venue looked beautiful, the organisation was seamless, and the attention to detail was outstanding. Thanks to the hard work and professionalism of the team, our day was everything we had hoped for and more.
We would highly recommend The Cromwell to anyone considering it as a wedding venue. Thank you to everyone involved for making our wedding day so memorable and truly perfect.

Our wedding at Hotel Cromwell!!
Gosh what a weekend we had celebrating our wedding on 21st August! Our wedding day was absolutely fantastic! We had an amazing time! It was even more than I expected The team were fantastic and we had no problems at all with anything! (Apart from my car not turning up to take me to the church! But it all worked out in the end )
From start to finish all the team and suppliers were brilliant. Ian the DJ was fantastic and I think he enjoyed it too! Megan and her team looked after us all on the day and there isn't one negative thing I can say! They were all so organised, helpful and happy! I could go on and on!

If you are thinking of having your wedding here- do it!
Firstly, I want to thank Paul- from the beginning you have been so helpful with planning our special day. You took us through every step and kept us updated along the way. From the initial meeting to the menu tasting, we couldn't fault a thing. Thank you
Secondly, I'd like to thank Megan.
She helped us so much on the actual day, more than she probably realises. Everything was taken care of and she was a pleasure to be around. Anything we asked for, she was just willing to help and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Everyone commented how lovely Megan was.
They both work so, so hard and it didn't go unnoticed!
There was also a young man, who was there on the day, who was also so amazing, unfortunately I don't know his name, but would like to thank you to him too.
Additionally, the room, breakfast, dinner the night before, little touches: like the gift in our room, all just added to the amazing experience!
