Perfect NC500 Stop – Warm Welcome, Great Food & Atmosphere

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We stopped at the Balintore Inn while travelling the NC500 and couldn’t have chosen a better place. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm and genuine welcome from the owners, Mariah and Mike, which instantly made us feel at home.
We enjoyed a fantastic evening meal — beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and paired perfectly with some great drinks. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with great locals who were more than happy to chat and share their top tips for the rest of our journey the following day.
It was exactly the kind of memorable stop you hope for when travelling the NC500: excellent food, welcoming hosts, and true Highland hospitality. Highly recommended — we’d happily return anytime.

Excellent

Ideal setting with views across the water, we had a delicious meal, fine selection of cider on tap. The owner was most welcoming, nice guy. Will definitely be back.

LARGE PORTIONS, GOOD VALUE.

Often frequent the Balintore Inn for a beer and food and realised I haven't reviewed it. Start with the beer, good choice on the bar including Red Kite, Madri, ABK and Icebreaker plus others, along with the usual regular Tennants and Belhaven black and a chouce of Ciders. It is a hotel so expect to pay a little more than average. Now let's talk about the food. The menu changes regularly and is really varied. Tai, Brazilian, Peruvian, Indian, Hungarian to name a few. Also Venison dishes and Scottish favourites like Neeps and Tatties appear too. As I said the menu does change so the above are just examples. You will find Scampi and Macaroni cheese as regular fare. Prices are about average for the area but here's where the Balintore Inn stands out, portion size. I don't think there's another place in the area that gives such value for money. The dishes are hearty and come with fresh vegetables or rice or fries. My last visit I had the scampi, not something I would normally have as I think it's a bit of a con when on average you get about 8 pieces. Not here though!! 17 pieces of premium scampi (id eaten 2 before I took the picture) it with a large portion of fries and a generous serving of lovely garden peas and tarter sauce. Sit outside where there's plenty of seating and soak up the sea and scenery of this lovely seaboard village. Friendly staff and locals and a character of a landord/ chef makes the Balintore in a must visit.
Almost forgot to mention that camper vans are welcome to park in the car park for free overnight if you frequent the bar for beers or food. Also electric car charger too. Dogs welcome outside only.

Great place to stay and eat!

We stayed two nights. Great hosts, who really looked after us and the food was great! The room was clean, well laid out and with a sea view.

Great evening , with lovely tasting food, good portion sizes and friendly staff

Visited here on New Years Eve after having won a voucher in a local charity raffle. Decided to have an early supper at 5pm, and were the only ones in the pub. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming and quickly brought us a food & drinks menu and soon returned to take our order. They have a pretty standard pub fare menu, with a few other options , and just one veggie/vegan dish, Drinks were brought quickly and we enjoyed listening to a great 60;s playlist until our food came. The portion size is great , and the food was delicious . My husband had the macaroni cheese which he said was the best he has ever tasted , I had a wonderful venison casserole with silky smooth mash, and our two veggie friends were very impressed with the Teriyaki veg stir fry which was a huge portion served with rice. We did have a look at the desserts , but they only have a choice of two: crumble and an ice cream selection, but to be honest we were all still full after the great dinner. When we left two of the staff came over to thank us for coming and wish us a happy New Year which was nice.
