The Imperial Torquay – Our Wedding

We honestly cannot recommend The Imperial Torquay highly enough.
The hotel setting is simply perfect with stunning views across the bay, and it provided a gorgeous backdrop for our wedding day.
A very special thank you to Sarita, who was there for us from the very beginning. She helped us plan and coordinate everything in the months leading up to the wedding and was always on hand whenever we needed anything.
On the day itself, she kept everything running smoothly and even helped us with setting up the music and our bubble machines, having someone so helpful, calm and organised made such a difference and took so much pressure away from us, we also want to give a huge thank you to Ben, who was overseeing operations on the day. He was incredibly efficient and did an amazing job coordinating the staff and overseeing the food service and reception. So much effort and running around was happening behind the scenes, yet it was done so seamlessly without disturbing our guests or taking anything away from the atmosphere. We absolutely noticed the work that went on behind the scenes and it was hugely appreciated, our guests couldn't stop commenting on how delicious and plentiful the food was, and everyone was served promptly and efficiently.
Even the General Manager, despite not actually being on shift that day, made time to come and check that we were happy and that everything was going well.
Our bridal suite was absolutely huge and was perfect for the morning preparations. There was more than enough space for hair and beauty to be set up comfortably, even with bridesmaids and photographer there was still plenty of room, Having breakfast delivered to our room was another lovely touch.
The Imperial gave us the perfect wedding day from start to finish. The beautiful setting, incredible food, wonderful staff and attention to detail made it a day we will never forget.
A huge thank you to the entire team at The Imperial Torquay for helping make our wedding everything we dreamed it would be. We would wholeheartedly recommend The Imperial to anyone looking for the perfect wedding venue. ❤️✨

Sea view but they need to let out the stale air.

This may have been a lovely hotel in its day.
Now, staying there felt like being a resident in an old nursing home. The air throughout the hotel is stale ( considering this is a sea front hotel, I’d at least expect fresh air within the stuffy building) and the window in our room could only be opened a crack because they have window restrictors attached.
We were woken in the early hours by cars racing and skidding about somewhere close by.
But the biggest annoyance was that everytime we went back to our bedroom, the electronic keys never worked, which meant we had to go down 4 floors to the reception to get them sorted out ( they advised us not to put the keys near mobile phones, but they still did not work).
Also, you need a very long phone charger if you like your phone next to your bed because the plug sockets are too far away.
We did have a lovely view of the sea in the dining room but breathing stuffy, stale air while looking at that breezy view was torture in itself.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I would not stay there again.

Had room 321 . This is a very large room of 30 metres + on the top floor, with floor to ceiling sliding patio doors, giving onto 6/7 metres of private balcony with absolutely stunning sea views of the marina and the whole of Torbay. You can't get better.
Breakfast serves by uniformed stsff in a huge elegant long dining room with similar sea views, the whole place reminiscent of grand old hotels of days gone by. Proper white tablecloths. Indoor pool. Not even that expensive. A short walk to the Marina. The Imperial.
Book it!

We had booked a double room with a sea-view. On arrival we were disappointed with the room as the bed was only a standard double size, which few hotels have these days and which was not clear to us when booking (though perhaps we assumed wrongly). This room was also a bit small for our taste and expectations, and it wasn't even the smallest size we could have booked (which would have been the "cozy double") so I can't image how "cozy" that would be. Annaya on reception was very patient with us and helpful in upgrading us to a larger room (at a price). And once we had upgraded we were very happy with the room and the view.
The hotel has an aura of internal grandeur consistent with some of its celebrated past guests but is perhaps showing its age in terms of its exterior decor. It is only a short walk from the buzz of Torquay harbour.
The breakfast buffet provided a good choice, with some nice touches (e.g. overnight oats with banana) but we found that from 9am it was quite busy and as a result they were unable to handle food requests such as poached eggs or eggs benedict.
We enjoyed our visit and a special mention should go to Annaya and Callum on reception who were both polite, helpful and professional in all our interactions and issues. We would consider coming again.
A tip: We were definitely happy we had paid for a sea-view room as the rooms at the back of the hotel have a limited inland view.
Also note you have to pay £10 per night parking, which is annoying.
