The staff ( especially the bar staff) were beyond fantastic, absolutely brilliant.
The hotel itself was fantastic as well .

Staff was friendly but someone came into my room with no business to be there. He did not explain why he came in with his key, just apologized and left.
The place is nice but outdated in several ways. There is also not enough guiding signs in a complex building.
No conditioner available.
This place has a lot of potential but at the moment it is not worth its nightly price.

Stay was average. Definitely clutching at a 4 star rating. It's dated decor and bathrooms suites need to be upgraded. No drinking water in the rooms considering the water dispenser outside our room was a wooden box and a unconnected PVC pipe. Had to go to the bar to get bottled water and then was expected to pay! If you have high expectations of what a 4 star hotel is then you need to bring them right down. Mr Macdonald needs to cash inject to update the property it's looking very very tired. Lots of stairs so if you are not good with them or in a wheelchair or have a baby in a pram like us don't bother as the restaurant and bar are up and down stairs. Our dog friendly room also has stairs to access. The female changing rooms has half theights working so you had to get ready in the dark. Our extractor in our bathroom was so noisy. Staff were friendly but a bit all over the place. Just did the job due to our circumstances but definitely don't have high hopes of you think this a luxury 4 star hotel.

The grounds are lovely but inside the hotel it's so-so. The carpeting looks dated, the shower is very complicated to find out, and the bedrooms don't have a phone. The QR codes throughout the room don't work and while the bed is comfy, the rest of the room is just ok. The real draw is the surrounding property.

Honestly this hotel needs a complete refurb it is so run down I wouldn’t even consider staying again. There is paint peeling off the walls, the hotel lobby smells like an old people’s home and the corridors are dark and dingy. We had the awful experience of staying for breakfast which was probably the word hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. They had ran out of buns and ketchup for the breakfast sandwiches so we received stale bread with limp bacon and hard eggs. The continental breakfast was the saddest display I’ve seen in a long time and safe to say we didn’t eat much. Please don’t waste your money staying here.
