Sun Hotel Cleanliness

This hotel needs closing down and giving a thoroughly good clean top to bottom ,I appreciate its an old building but that doesn't excuse the lack of cleanliness.
We stayed in room two ,a room that has been updated but when, that's anybodies guess ,the amount of fluff and built up dust in corners ,skirts and pipework was appalling, the mattress was shot corners collapsed, and springs made noises as you turned over ,when the floor was last brushed thoroughly and washed again is anybodies guess ,remnants of biscuits under dressing table on arrival still there when we left (a day early ) I wouldn't be surprised if its still there now .The only saving grace for this hotel is ,it provides a good full English breakfast .
This was our 49th wedding anniversary trip Away, we've been to Walkworth twice before but always done self catering but under the circumstances thought we'd do a Hotel stay instead .
NOTE TO SELF ,READ REVIEWS IN FUTURE ,AND DONT PAY IN ADVANCE .

Dog friendly Sunday lunch right by the Castle

Had Sunday lunch at this hotel - in the bar area as we went with our dog. We arrived at Noon, when they opened and had eaten and left by 12.45pm. Food was lovely and the young man that served us (10th May 2026) was very friendly and helpful and provided a good service (sorry for not getting your name) Food was lovely and there was a great selection of meats. I had the beef, daughter had the chicken and husband had the pork.

Slightly disappointed

Friendly welcome as always, we have been several times and enjoy our visits to Warkworth. Unfortunately our room this time was disappointing, steep steps down to a small bathroom are not ideal in the night! The shower was squeezed in and extremely small.
Breakfast very good as always. Would return but not to that room!

The Sun Hotel is a great place to stay. We will be back - in the near future!

We spend a wonderful over night weekend stay at The Sun Hotel. We had a warm welcome from a young man who gave us the key to The Secret Room (Room 1). The room was clean, warm and well presented. We ate in the attached pub and were served by the same hotel reception guy. We had a great sleep in a comfortable bed and quiet environment. Breakfast was also enjoyable. A friendly lady took our cooked order and we helped ourself to drinks and cereals. It is an old atmospheric building which we discovered was originally the coach house for Warkworth castle itself. We would be happy to return.
