Long check-in queue, dated room, unbranded slippers, towel shortage, - but great brekkie
The spa was in need of repair in many places, broken tiles, rusting rails and badly lime-scaled area. Again not great for the price they charge. The one thing I was happy with was the brekkie. Lots of fresh options. I filled up on the lovely sliced melons - all 4 kinds. Did an amazing bicycle ride around the grounds for over an hour. Repeated a lot of the same paths but did not want to go out on the main road. Biggest disappointment. They had run out of the Champney branded slippier on the day I arrived so I was given a grey pair. I was also given a filthy make-up stained robe which I did not recognise til I got to the room. I really do want to visit another of their branches and am hoping to have a better stay.

I'm sharing this to help disabled travellers make an informed choice.
Prior to my stay, I was told Room 73 had an accessible wet room. However, it had a low-level bath. Staff confirmed the information was incorrect and told me the hotel was full and Room 72 was the only room with an accessible wet room. The guest staying there was approached while eating her evening meal and asked to swap rooms with me. She agreed.
Staff told me the accessible rooms are beyond the Garden Wing, at the back of the hotel. That, there are none near the main reception because rooms there can only be reached by stairs.
There is no accessible parking immediately outside the hotel. There are 2 accessible spaces near the gym reception, closer to Room 73. We were told we could park and check in there. We could park there, but fitness staff said we couldn't check in and had to go to the main reception.
The walk from the main reception to Room 72 took someone without mobility difficulties 5 minutes. Using a walking aid, it took me approximately 10 minutes each way. Breakfast is near the main reception, and the route includes long corridors and an incline.
Other guests using mobility aids told me they'd experienced similar difficulties and were equally surprised by the location of the accessible rooms.
I hope this helps other disabled people decide whether the hotel can meet their needs.

Could be better
The food was not very good. The new system of having an allowance for lunch and dinner is a terrible idea The menu is priced so you have to pay extra if you want three courses. The whole point of Champneys is that you could relax and choose 3 courses without worrying about the cost. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.
I have stayed at Springs, Henlow Grange and Forest Mere. Tring has a very confusing layout, I kept getting lost. The indoor swimming pool is very enclosed with a glass roof but no windows or views.
At dinner my friend ordered a desert they brought the wrong one and the waiter apologised and said he would replace it with the correct desert but never came back! When we asked the staff about it the desert had not been taken off the bill.
On our last day a corporate event took place for Adobe and Tring was swamped with many extra people causing big queues at the cafe.
The final straw was that my friend extended her stay and left her suitcase in reception and they lost the suitcase. Eventually it was found the staff had delivered the case to the same room she had vacated at 11am that day!
Tring could be so much better I will not be returning.

Cannot compare to other Champneys will not be returning
It was dissappointing that we arrived at 10 am but couldnt get into the room till 2pm. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I found the building very confusing and kept getting lost. There was no water waiting for us in our room. The food was not very good. The new system of an allowance for lunch and dinner is a really bad idea, the menu is priced so that if you want three courses you have to pay extra. The whole point of staying at Champneys is that you can relax, not worry about adding up prices and enjoy three courses. My friend ordered a desert but the waiter brought the wrong desert when we told him he apologised said he would bring the right one then never came back! When we left the restaurant we asked the staff to check our bill and it hadnt been taken off the bill.
The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.

It could be so much better I will not be returning to Tring.
