Burnt food and poor service.
It’s a beautiful building in a great location, with a very basic menu that’s quirky enough to make it interesting.
When I arrived, I asked if they had a table for 1 and was politely advised that I could sit inside or outside. I opted for the latter. There are many tables but only 3 others were occupied.
After waiting quite a while for someone to take my drink order, I started trying to catch the eye of the waiter, which I managed on 2 occasions, but still she didn’t approach me.
I was about to leave when I notices some small and faded print on a small sign at the edge of the table (see image), which said I had to order via the QR. Code. Nobody told me that and it really wasn’t obvious.
Once I ordered (which was easy to do), the drink and food came very quickly.
I had the halloumi bowl, which was a decent size, but the halloumi itself was burnt, which gave it a terribly acrid taste and ruined the whole meal.
I was nearly finished before anyone asked me how the meal was, so I stuck with it. When I eventually did get asked, I told them about the food being burnt. Instead of offering an alternative or some other positive action, she just said she’d tell the chef and then walked off (she was pleasant enough about, but still).
I wouldn’t recommend this place for food or service.

Amazing!
We booked it last minute due to our previous hotel being totally unsatisfactory and honestly, the difference is night and day.
The Judges Lodging looks well kept as you approach and the Reception area is very welcoming.
The staff are so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were asked if we needed help with our bags and shown to our room. We were given room 11.
As I walked in, I couldn't believe the facilities. It has a lounge area, with a sofa and chairs, tea and coffee making facilities, including a coffee machine.
Free complimentary truffles, robes, slippers, sleeping mask, ear plugs and a treat box which contained crisps, chocolates and nuts (however the Treat Box snacks are to pay for).
The bathroom has a modern separate shower and bath with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.
The bedroom area is so comfortable as well.
The whole room is cosy, luxurious and comfortable. So much so, we have decided to stay in tonight and relax rather than go out for dinner.
I would 100% recommend this hotel and will absolutely stay again.

Mixed feelings
The breakfasts were really excellent.
The staff were really helpful especially the Russian bar manager.
On the other hand, I got the impression that the site had been over-developed and rooms had been sited in locations where noise was clearly going to be an issue.
There are courtyard rooms to the rear that face out on to the open air bar area and actually have tables and chairs overhead on their roofs as well.
Our room was at the front and overlooked the bar cellar so we were woken at 6.50am by the sound of beer barrels rolling across the paving. Moreover, two air conditioning units were sited immediately outside our bathroom window and on the other side of wall adjacent to our bed head. These were on more or less constantly. We mentioned this on our departure but the response was to act as if was a complete surprise to find this information out.
Parking is available a short walk away but factor the cost of this in if you are driving.
