Fantastic Hotel.
We recently stayed in a beautiful courtyard suite, which felt completely timeless and comfortable. The hotel itself is a stunning, stately property nestled within magnificent, tranquil, and peaceful gardens.What we loved:Fantastic Staff: Every single team member was incredibly helpful, and absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them.Exceptional Concierge Service: A massive shout-out to James, who went above and beyond to help us plan a day trip to Whitby. He took the time to mark a map with scenic places for us to visit along the way, which made our drive incredibly special.The Setting: The grounds are exceptionally beautiful and offer a perfect, peaceful escape.The only negative:The Shower Setup: The shower is located over the bath, and its design makes it impossible to turn on without getting completely drenched. If you do not intend to wash your hair, this is a major inconvenience. A simple adjustment or a shower cap is definitely needed here.Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and the incredible service from James and the team truly made our stay memorable. We would highly recommend it!.

A gem of a Hotel
Middlethorpe Hall was an exceptional property. The hotel was spotless,the staff were friendly and attentive,nothing was too much trouble,
The gardens were wonderful especially the kitchen garden.
The choice at breakfast was amazing and cooked to perfection.
A wonderful 54th wedding anniversary treat.

Disappointed
Sadly very disappointing. No water by the bed. No turn down service. No sugar when served tee-amongst other things-sadly has gone down hill a lot from my previous stay. Dinner ok but certainly nothing to write home about especially at the price. Where to try in York next time??

Although we have no record of this reviewer staying here (his first- and sur-names were originally used on this site) we are disappointed and do regret that he did not fully enjoy his stay and felt compelled to write this review.
We only wish he had spoken to a member of the Management team at the time, as the points mentioned could have very easily been rectified then.
It is worth noting that:
. Two complimentary 75cl bottles of filtered water are available in each room, and are positioned next to the Nespresso machine and kettle;
. The evening turndown service remains available to all guests upon request;
We do hope that this guest will give us another chance and visit again when next in York.
We would appreciate if he could make himself known, as the team and I will want to make doubly sure that he has a comfortable and enjoyable return visit here.

All or nothing !
Booked a two night stay at Middlethorpe Hall in order to spend time exploring York. It is an impressive building set in a picturesque landscape with a feeling of the Antiques Roadshow about it, being very serene and cultured. Our room was a standard Courtyard double which was clean, functional and met all our basic needs other than internet connection which was weak to being non-existent. The room was, however, small and quite dark with an awkward shower in-bath setup. With its small TV, bed, bathroom and seating it would not have been suited to a relaxed/extended stay since as well as space, privacy was also somewhat compromised on downstairs courtyard rooms.
The grounds and garden on the other hand are extensive, pleasant and a delight to explore and to walk around with interesting gardens,parklands and trees etc although road noise from the A64 is very evident.
Evenings seem to be about the dining experience, which having explored York’s restaurants ( we enjoyed the Cosy Club) we did not use so spent some time instead in the Lounge area (there is no Bar) where hushed tones seemed to be the pervading atmosphere whilst being served drinks/ coffee etc. The staff fortunately are all excellent/available and indeed it has been a long time since I was escorted to my room at checkin, offered help with my luggage and told about the hotel and it's history
Breakfast was fine with a good selection and prompt service but the Yorkshire Breakfast was no better than served at many other establishments and certainly not sufficiently so to justify the price.
I have to say that whilst our stay was pleasant and gave us a taste of the Hotel I was generally underwhelmed with my visit, especially given the experiences many other reviewers have expressed and I wondered whether to fully enjoy the Hotel, you need to make it the focus destination for a week, book a more superior room, use the Spa facilities and indulge in the evening wine and dine. All, obviously with the attendant cost.
The hotel, in summary was ok as a stopover but to properly enjoy it I suspect you need to up the budget and go for it, Room,Spa, Dining and all.

An impressive historic house hotel just a short bus ride from the centre of York!
From the moment we arrived the staff were all very attentive whilst managing to not give one the feeling that they were constantly hovering, a delicate balancing act well executed.
Dinner and breakfasts were delicious….what more can I say?
We also particularly enjoyed strolling in the gardens and chatting with and getting tips from the gardeners….one lady went out of her way to show us a reference book and suggest that I photograph the page about a particular plant we had asked her about.
Our room, in the main house was spacious, very well appointed and spotlessly clean ….our only issue was the lack of a small fridge…..drinking warm water partially during the night wasn’t the best thing.
