Choose Elsewhere. The hotel was 3 stars not 5, as stated. We was not aware of free Breakfast either.
The hotel was rated 3 star not any higher than myself, the carpets were stained in many areas, of bleach etc.
The bed slats are the bottom needed adjusting as they were spaced apart. I had to adjust them from parting. The toilet door was so close to the toilet it was difficult to close the door. The bathroom was small but ok. One day the cleaners had not cleaned our room by 1530hrs after we got back. This was not acceptable. Food was rather expensive considering, we were not aware of free breakfast. This was supposed to be relaxing for my husbands birthday. We were unsatisfied with the breakfast in York. We had a money issue also go missing. We did get the money back. All this was stressed. I wear a tabloid to keep calm. Failed ! 3/10

We found the staff friendly and helpful.
The room we stayed in was supposed to be an upgrade, I dread to think the condition it was in, compared to our upgrade.
Parking was good.

Having to pay £18.50 for car parking despite having already paid for a £200+ room for the night is shocking despite being in a prime location.
Swimming Pool sessions restricted to 30 minute slots. (See good points for top tip)
Pool table needs new cues as they had no tips. Drink prices as expected very expensive.
Good points:
Location, location, location. A very short and beautiful walk along the river to City centre.
Breakfast was nice and plentiful.
Booked swimming for the first slot at 7am next morning and as expected was too early for the rest of the hotel so had the pool to ourselves, enabling to stay for over a hour before more guests arrived. Then had the aforementioned breakfast.
Room was clean and very comfortable.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful, we had arrived much earlier than expected and reception got a room ready for us straight away at 1050, much to our welcomed surprise, to enable us to get on and explore York.
In the reception area there was a very good toy area and gaming area for the little ones. (Sadly right next to the exit so we struggled to get our 2 year old past it every time we went to the lobby. Haha)
Summary,
For a family of 2 adults a 2 year old and 7 year old it was a perfect place, and we would stay here again but we would look around first for other possible cheaper options despite this wonderful location.
