Romantic, unique, elegant

What a unique and beautiful place to stay downtown, walkable to almost all our favorite restaurants! We’ve had a fantastic stay. I enjoy having a soaking tub, so the magnolia king room was perfect for us (also has a gorgeous marble shower). The bed is super comfortable, the art deco styling is period perfect, and everyone who works here is nice and helpful. The continental breakfast is an elevated one, with egg bites, overnight oats, yogurt, fresh fruits, etc. I’d return here in a heartbeat.

Thank you so much for such a glowing review! We are delighted that Zelda Dearest provided the perfect romantic and elegant backdrop for your stay.
It is wonderful to hear that the Magnolia King room, with its soaking tub, marble shower, and comfortable bed, exceeded your expectations. We take great pride in our period-perfect Art Deco design and curating a thoughtful continental breakfast, so knowing those details enhanced your visit means the world to us. Our staff will also be thrilled by your kind words about their service!
Thank you for recommending us, and we can't wait to welcome you back in a heartbeat on your next trip to Asheville!

Poor guest safety

No one is on duty overnight or after 10 pm - you are on your own. They give you a number to call if you need help, which goes to another Hilton property in town.
Get there by mid-afternoon if you want a parking spot. There are not enough available.
Stairwell inside the Tilde building where we stayed was very dimly lit and stairs were finished in a dark brown. Very hard to tell where the edges of the stairs were. We had to feel our way down and up. Door at the top opened into the stairwell and was placed high on the door. I'm tall but could not tell if there was anyone coming up before I opened it, or not.
If there was a fire exit other than the single main stairwell, I couldn't find it.
The room was fine, the breakfast was good, and the staff was friendly.
It was guest safety we found lacking. The other buildings may be better, as they are all different, but I am not staying there again to find out. The creepy factor spoiled any ambiance the old buildings might have provided.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. While we’re glad to hear you enjoyed the room, breakfast, and the hospitality of our team, we’re disappointed that concerns about safety and accessibility affected your stay so significantly.
We take your comments regarding the lighting and visibility in the stairwell. These are not concerns we take lightly, and we will be reviewing the areas you referenced with our team to ensure that signage, lighting, and emergency access are clear and appropriate.
As a historic boutique property made up of several individual buildings, Zelda Dearest does have a different layout and character than a traditional hotel, and our after-hours support is provided through our partner property in Asheville. We understand, however, that this arrangement may not have provided the level of reassurance you expected during your stay.
Regarding parking, we do our best to reserve and restrict our parking lot for registered hotel guests. Unfortunately, we occasionally have vehicles parked in those spaces by individuals who are not staying with us, which can limit availability for our guests. We understand how frustrating that can be, particularly when arriving later in the day, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
Thank you again for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. Your comments give us an opportunity to take a closer look at areas where we can do better.

For our first visit to Asheville we chose Zelda Dearest and stayed in the Darling Heart room. The hotel is a unique place with rooms set about several different buildings surrounding a courtyard. The location of the hotel is within easy walking distance of the main shopping/restaurant/bars in downtown Asheville. (There are several fantastic restaurants located within a 5-15 minute walk.)
Our accommodation was very spacious having a living room, separate bedroom with a king bed, and large bathroom. Unfortunately, the sofa sleeper in the living room was not comfortable, which we needed to use for the first night due to a maintenance issue in the bedroom. Thankfully, the issue was resolved the next day. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking is available on site but you may have to pay for it (unless it’s included in your booking fee.) There is a small bar/lounge area that is quaint and the mixologist does a fine job serving up your favorite Flapper era beverage.
Unfortunately, the breakfast options for us (gluten-free) were marginal. If you like a continental type breakfast, you’ll enjoy it. Overall, a unique experience at Zelda Dearest.

Close to the center of town by only a few blocks yet with a secluded and restful vibe. Great characterful rooms across multiple remodeled Victorian buildings made this a memorable stay. A cosy bar, great continental breakfasts and great local scene guidance add to a 10/10 experience. Most significantly while it is not staffed 24/7 the daytime staff could not have done more to help with grace and a warm smile. Probably some of the most professional, welcoming and genuinely interested staff I have ever come across in many hotel stays around the world. Can't wait to return
