Caliente Gem

Solid stay in a typical small town motel, clean and well maintained. Park outside your door and use a real key to unlock the door. Room has a microwave and a fridge, newer laminate floors, and a small tv. There is a train that runs through town every few hours that adds to the small town charm.
Given the size of Caliente, this is walking distance (or a really short drive) to the available dining choices. We chose the Knotty Pine and had good burgers and country fried steak.

The Shady Motel - a cozy place to stay!

The Shady Motel is located on Front Street in Caliente, Nevada, and is walking distance to downtown. It is a cute mom and pop style motel with a chill vibe. The rooms were simple, quiet, very clean and well worth the price. There were bars of soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, a small microwave and a refrigerator in our room. Free coffee is available in the Motel lobby, along with a limited selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Several restaurant choices within easy walking distance.

Very Clean and Comfortable!

We just finished a short stay at The Shady Motel while visiting family nearby. Full transparency, I was nervous. We typically stay in high end hotels and I’m pretty spoiled. I even brought extra sheets “just in case”. (Don’t mock me here….I didn’t know what to expect!). The pictures online of the rooms aren’t great, but what we found was completely different. The rooms are exceptionally clean. They have been freshened up with new finishes and paint. It’s simple but very comfortable. We will absolutely be back.

This hotel was selling some rooms which did not have WiFi.

I checked in and paid -- making it clear to the receptionist that WiFi was important to me before she assigned my room. When I entered my room, I found that there was no WiFi signal in that room. (However, there is WiFi signal in the reception office and the building nearest to the office.) I returned to the receptionist and, to make a long story short, I ended up getting a full refund to my credit card because she had no more rooms available in the building with working WiFi.
I ended up staying at the Rainbow Canyon Motel which had strong WiFi in my room and decent internet speed.
Also note that the first photo you see when you review on Tripadvisor is NOT the Shady Hotel. The pretty building you see in the first photo with the arches on the ground floor is someplace else.

Okay, but nothing special

Clean standard motel with good floors (no carpet), microwave, fridge, good beds, unfortunately no coffee in the room, but ear plugs in the lobby which were really needed. The train whistles loudly and unfortunately we had a room on the lower floor, the footsteps and the shower from above were very loud. Good heating, but the breakfast in the lobby was rather modest with oatmeal and yogurt.
