Would not recommend...

My friend and I were excited for our trip to Chatham and had booked a room at the Old Harbor Inn several months in advance, after researching several options. The trip got off to a poor start when we were shown to our rooms and found that one of them had a “private bathroom just down the hall.” We never expected that a guest room costing more than $450/night would not be ensuite. When we checked with the proprietors about this and asked if we could have another room, we were told they were full up and that we “just had to accept that we had made a poor choice.” That was certainly the case as our interaction with the owners was quite an unpleasant experience. Many reviews mention that the Inn is “Welcoming,” but for us it was anything but. The owners blamed us (apparently we didn’t read the fine print) and they told us that they would be happy to have us leave and forfeit our deposit. We didn’t. We stuck it out. The experience and the bathroom situation were a shame because there is a lot to like at the Inn. Apart from the owners, the staff were kind and helpful, the building and grounds are very attractive, the breakfast delicious, and the location was excellent.

This is not a hotel, which, since I booked via Hotels.com, I expected that it would be. Apparently, in New England an Inn is not a hotel. Holiday Inn is a hotel and they have Inn in the name, so we don’t know. It’s basically a $700 a night bed and breakfast. Clean and appears new, nicely appointed, but paper thin walls. We could hear our neighbor sneeze and he could hear us speaking softly. The back doors stay unlocked all night with no staff sitting guard. At 12:30 AM, we were awakened by someone loudly stomping around the outside porch and downstairs and banging a door. It was scary. It is not worth the price. If it were $250 a night, OK, but $700 including tax, we feel ripped off.

Couldn't ask for more.

A wonderful stay at the Inn in everyday. Ray and Judy Braz were great always available, made us feel like family and we felt like we were home. Breakfast every morning was more than expected offering something different everyday. We also received great recommendations for touring the cape and dining. Thank you Ray and Judy!

Can't Wait to Go Back!

We had a wonderful time, as we always do. Owners Judy and Ray treat us like family (this was about our 8th visit). The staff is excellent and just as welcoming. We go to the Old Harbor Inn to relax, and that's exactly what we do. The rooms are all wonderful, and the breakfasts are always great. We will be going back soon, and are already looking forward to it. Chatham is a lovely little town, and we always enjoy strolling through it.
