Great place and affordable

Billie’s hostel was amazing. She accommodates our needs. We stayed at Tom’s room. Two twins. The room was clean and comfortable. She waited for us till 930pm but also had a note in front for check in info. The common kitchen had a lot of items to share for everyone to use. Coffee, tea and hot coco. Full stove toaster if you want to cook. Towels are provided and very clean bathroom. The rooms in the main house is just too dark and our tiny window opens to a fence. Wish there’s a sealing light. But over all stay was great. Billie is like the grandma to every guess. Definitely would recommend her place.

Warm and Cozy house

Billie’s house is very warm and cozy, with every corner filled with a homely atmosphere.
There is a bus stop nearby, with both the red and blue lines providing access to places like the University of Alaska, Fred Meyer supermarket, and downtown. However, the buses do not run on weekends, so for guests without a car, it is more convenient to join tours that include shuttle services.
Billie and her son, Art, are both very friendly and always willing to help guests. They also provide hot coffee in the morning. It’s a great experience to see travelers from different countries gathering in the living room downstairs, sharing and helping each other.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Perfect Stay at Billie’s Backpacker Hostel – Fairbanks, Alaska

I am currently staying at Billie’s Backpacker Hostel and honestly… it’s perfect. I’m still here for a few more days, but I couldn’t wait to write this because places like this deserve to be celebrated.
From the moment you arrive, everything is easy- access, clear instructions, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The hostel is adorable, cozy, quiet, and immaculately CLEAN. And I don’t say that lightly-I notice details.
Billie is 85 years old and gets up every single morning to clean, do laundry, and make sure guests have a fresh stack of clean, white towels. The bathroom is exceptionally clean—baseboards, behind the toilet, shower corners, tile—everything spotless. The water pressure is a 10/10, hot water is instant, and yes… the toilet paper is the good kind (Costco brand, I’m pretty sure). Rugs are changed and cleaned frequently, and the whole place smells warm and inviting.
The kitchen has everything you could need: full appliances, plenty of dishes, pots, pans, silverware, and paper towels. Billie even has fresh coffee ready every morning. If you’re staying a while, just bring groceries and label them, there’s plenty of fridge and freezer space.
The living room is incredibly cozy with a long table perfect for eating, reading, or writing (which I’ve been loving). There’s a piano, guitar, board games, TV (you can sign into your own streaming services), and fast WiFi. The photos Billie has displayed give such a genuine Alaska vibe. When you enter, there’s also a thoughtful sitting area for taking off shoes, grabbing coffee, checking bus schedules, and browsing pamphlets.
The 2 dorms has four bunks and one futon in one of them. The blankets and pillows are freshly cleaned with clean covers, mattresses are comfy, and there are no signs of unwanted critters or anything like that (freaks me out when you stay somewhere and it’s iffy) just very well taken care of cleaned . There’s a full bathroom both upstairs and downstairs, and best of all—USB ports and outlets everywhere. Zero shortage.
Outside, there’s a deck where you can see the northern lights at certain times, and the exterior honestly looks like a house inside a snow globe—so darn cute.
Location-wise, it’s fantastic. There’s a small café up the street, and the bus stop is right there. I took local transit all the way to the North Pole for $3. Uber from the airport was $16, and DoorDash and Uber Eats deliver right to the hostel. I am here during the winter so yes it’s freezing cold, but I knew that.
Now, Billie herself deserves a paragraph of her own. She’s a 3rd-generation Alaskan, a truly sweet soul, and she made me feel so welcome. I arrived having a hard day—I had just lost my job and already had this trip planned—and she genuinely lifted my spirits. She takes incredible pride in her home. She stays in her own private area on the lower level and has two small dogs that she keeps with her so guests are always comfortable. I personally fell in love with Otis, her pug.
The hostel is quiet, warm, and perfectly temperature-controlled. The price is unbeatable, and I honestly don’t think I could ask for a better stay.
I will absolutely be coming back—and when I do, I’ll stay here again without hesitation. If you’re coming to Fairbanks and want a clean, cozy, welcoming place that feels like home, Billie’s Backpacker Hostel is it.

Visit Billie’s hostel

Billie’s is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy Fairbanks. The hostel is clean, inviting and a great central point to do some hiking & exploring. Billie is a wonderful hostess, I feel like I’ve known her my whole life. There is the community kitchen to make a meal and meet new friends. Bikes to borrow and ride around the neighborhood. A comfortable swing to enjoy the evening in the backyard.
