Hotel very interesting with this vintage vibe. Live music was great and Having Chicas cafe made a big difference.

The Funky Dump

Only stay here if you bring a gas mask and your own towels and sheets. My boyfriend and I stayed here recently and it was the worst hotel we ever stayed at. Don’t worry there will be pictures of some of the disgusting horrors. First when you come into the lobby you are hit with a strong fishy old grease type of smell. The lobby shares a space with their restaurant but even when the restaurant is closed it still reeks of fish and old grease. Then the floors are dingy and sticky and the elevator is filthy and looks like a service elevator. Do not be fooled by the lovely hallways and vintage staircase charm. Our room on the 3rd floor left much to be desired. The room also carried the smell of fish and a strong chemical air freshener scent. The couch and chair in the room were dingy and stained. The walls had brownish yellow stains near the ceiling like a smoker lived there. Behind the first closet was the hvac covered in mold. Disgusting. There were micro stains on our pillows and the bed skirt. The sheets had heavy pilling and were scratchy. When we went to shower in the morning we discovered that every single towel they had provided were tattered and had stains on them. Like tan and black stains like someone took their makeup off with the towels. We told the front desk and were not offered an apology and we had to ask them for new towels they did not offer. Awful. Then the hotel had plumbing issues which is probably why they have black mold. Their ice machines broke and flooded the hallways. Our toilet wouldn’t stop running and water seeped out onto the bathroom floor through the bottom seal. We had to hold the handle up every time we flushed so that the water would turn off. To top it off the walls are thin and you can hear every single car go by on the street. Oh and my boyfriend got sick from the mold he started coughing after one night and his throat was burning. The health department should be contacted. Black mold is a healthy liability. Dirty.

The only reason we stay and would continue to stay is the closeness to downtown. This time the toilet wouldn’t flush. There was no reason it shouldn’t have as we didn’t clog it up with anything. We’ll be back but I’m just wondering what will happen next trip.

I know it's "historic" but maybe a little maintenance? The door to the room stuck. The tiles in the bathroom were peeling and the tub was stained. When we arrived we found used q-tips in the bathroom and when getting ice from the machine we saw lots of black mold. Also, the fridge was set so cold that everything we put in there froze.
Otherwise, a pleasant stay. Right in the downtown area so walkable to lots of restaurants. We enjoyed the bar downstairs (although I don't think they are affiliated with the hotel).

Room was ok. Not clean at all under coach cushions, couch and bed. Closet was full of remodeling supplies. And the bathtub is very slick I almost fell twice.
