Excellent room, spacious, well appointed, remarkably clean. Comfortable bead, house keeping helpful, one of the nicer hotels on the Western slope.
Funky elevator, reminds me of being in the 1800’s, but it works just fine!
Great location to train and local downtown eatery's! Light Breakfast was included.
A bit pricy but well worth the extra!

General Palmer Hotel - convenient but noisy
This is a beautiful old hotel which has been well maintained and updated, except for the very tiny, antiquated elevator which barely holds 1 person with his/her luggage. The hotel is on the main street in Durango, so you can easily walk to many restaurants in the area. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, this hotel is right near the railroad tracks, so you will hear the early train whistles, which are quite loud. And, being on the main street, you are near several bars whose noisy patrons woke us up at 1 AM. Plus, the motor cycles they used were very loud.

We undersatnd that our central location and proximity to the railroad can bring some noise, and we appreciate you bringign this to our attention. Elegant Old Hotel
Chose the General Palmer based on location. Glad we did. A great hotel with lots of charm. Very clean fantastic service. Typical cont breakfast. We loved everything about this place. And a 2 min walk to the train

A hotel with character
We really enjoyed our stay here during our instate road trip . The location is excellent except for the day train noise . But the train noise is honestly everywhere and it stops around 8:00 pm.
We stayed in the Presidential suite , which was a nice large room . The furniture and decor is definitely dated . But a lot of people like the old timey look - we are the odd ones . It is quite charming in its own way .
It was a super hot week -@94 degrees and the old AC worked like a charm to keep us cool - a huge plus .
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful . There are also coffee and water stations all throughout the hotel . The elevator is super small but a hoot. Be advised about the cute but small elevator. Overall a lovely stop on our journey.

Thank youfor staying with us! Being in the same block as the iconic train station is great and can also be a bit noisy. We agree that the presidential suite is charming and large with great views. Every room has new temperature control units and we are glad it did it's job on a hot week here in Durango. Friendly and helpful staff is what we are all about, thank you for that. Safe travels!
