Exceeding Expectations
We stayed in the Bungalow, a cozy, but comfortable unit detached from the main house. It featured one bedroom, with ample storage space for clothing, a small, but comfortable living room, and a fully-functional kitchen. The private bathroom with shower served our needs well.
Throughout the unit, there were electrical outlets (more than we would ever need) which allowed us to plug-in our laptops and cell phones.
Outside our unit, behind the main house, is a beautiful backyard with grass, a table and chairs, and an assortment of other cushioned chairs -- an ideal venue for writing, reading, or casual conversation. A fireplace is also available for those who would like to enjoy an evening by the fire.
Since the Hydrangea Inn is advertised as a "bed and breakfast," I should mention the breakfast. Each morning, a delicious picnic-basket breakfast is provided by our host. The food selections were amazing, again, exceeding expectations. When we arrived back at our room in the late afternoon or early evening, we found delightful dessert surprises awaiting us on the kitchen sink. The hospitality at the Hydrangea Inn is over-the-top.
Situated in a quiet residential neighborhood, the noise level was not an issue. The atmosphere of the entire property was both welcoming and serene. Our unit, as well as the driveway and backyard, were meticulously cared for.
Although a big-screen TV was available in the room, we didn't use it. We did, however, appreciate the wifi access, which we used every day.
Considering everything that is provided at the Hydrangea Inn, and the warm hospitality of Renée, our host, the cost of staying at this B&B is quite affordable. I can highly recommend the Hydrangea Inn to those considering a visit to Eureka. My wife and I will definitely be back -- hopefully soon!

A Hidden Gem Near the Redwoods — Listen to Your Host!
When I called to book, Renee asked what brought us to the area. When she learned we were visiting the Redwoods, she recommended several locations that weren't listed in any of our research — not in guidebooks, not on travel sites. Her suggestions were so good we extended our stay to a second night and still couldn't fit everything in.
The bungalow was spotless and cozy. Contactless check-in was seamless — a welcome bag awaited us with maps, brochures, the room key, parking instructions, and a note about breakfast. Renee had asked about dietary needs when I booked, and the next morning a wonderful breakfast arrived in a basket on our porch, with a note that someone would collect the dishes later. While we were out hiking, the bed was made, fresh towels were set out, and a warm chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron pan was waiting on the counter.
On Renee's recommendation, we explored Rockefeller Forest and Prairie Creek Redwood State Forest, along with several trails in each. We would have missed so much incredible beauty had we stuck only to the National Park itself.
Everything about this stay felt personal and genuine. We never met Renee or her staff face-to-face, but we felt genuinely cared for from the first phone call to the moment we left. Highly, highly recommend — and when you book, ask Renee what to see in the Redwoods.
