Motel6 or Courtyard? What to choose?

Never again. Seriously.
I travel frequently and usually choose Marriott or Hilton properties. Marriott is generally a safe bet, so I never expected a Courtyard by Marriott to make me wonder whether I had accidentally booked a Motel 6.
My first room had pubic hair on the shower floor and smelled like dirty socks. The air conditioner couldn’t be adjusted or turned off and ran nonstop. After calling the front desk, I waited more than 30 minutes for a technician and another 30 min for him in my room fixing it.
For my second stay, I booked a “better” room. Instead, I was placed in the older building, which was noticeably worn and less appealing than the newer one.
The real surprise was the door—it would not lock at all. Not difficult to lock. Not broken occasionally. It simply would not lock. Since the room opens directly to an exterior walkway, this was more than a minor inconvenience. Yes, they fixed it but I’m not comfortable.
If you stay here, don’t assume you’ll be assigned to the newer building. My experience was disappointing enough that I won’t be staying here again.

I expected better from Courtyard by Marriott

There were a few things that were not good.
1. Housekeeping did not refresh the room the first day of our visit. We had to call the front desk. They brought towels up around 5:00 pm. They did not bring bring more coffee packets.
2. The bathroom and shower were small. Counter space in the bathroom was extremely limited.
3. One of the window blinds was broken and would not open. That meant we could not enjoy the view from that window.
4. Water pooled on the balcony. It did not enter the room, but it did limit the use of the balcony.
5. One window rattled in the frame when the wind blew. This made it hard to sleep. It was also very concerning when the storm struck. We did not know if the window would blow out in the middle of the storm.
6. The elevator quit working a couple of times. This was concerning because our room was on the 10th floor.
7. A loudspeaker announcement in the middle of the night told people not to use the the elevator. This may have been to prevent people from being trapped if the power went out. However the announcement was not clear and was not repeated.
8. There was water in the stairwell. The water made the concrete stairs slick and unsafe.
9. One light was not functioning properly in the stairwell creating an unsafe situation.
10. Water began dripping from the ceiling of our room during the storm. This was concerning. We called the Front Desk and they said they would have Engineering look into it. We checked out before anyone came to check on the leak. That was at least 4 hours after we reported the leak.
11. Parking was horrible. This made it dangerous to cross the parking lot to reach our room.
12. Waikiki Beach was about 1/2 mile away. It would require crossing several busy streets to walk to the beach.
13. The room was expensive, really expensive! I suppose this is to be expected in an exotic destination,
The hotel waived the "Resort Fees" because of the water leak leak, The staff we interacted with were very friendly and appeared to care about the customers. But dang, why couldn't they provide coffee, clean towels and a dry room.
I expected better from a Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

We are sorry that water entered your room during the storm and that help did not arrive for several hours. Having to wait while dealing with a leak would be unsettling, especially during severe weather. The additional concerns you described across the property have been shared with the teams responsible for each area. We are glad the team members you met were friendly and showed care, even though the condition of your room and the response you received did not support a comfortable stay. We appreciate you bringing this experience to our attention.

The worst Marriott experiment in my life, moved rooms 3 times since AC did not work and on the second day the elevator did not work and we are senior citizens and handicapped so we could not go down 9 floors of stairs and had to miss our excision which was a loss of $500 since it was not refundable

Courtyard Marriott Honolulu

The hotel near beach one block or parallel to Kuhio beach street . The rooms are on the older side but the location is good. I would choose the rooms that connect to the lobby
