0/10 — Absolutely Not Worth $700+ a Night
We booked the Anvil Hotel through a travel company, and I want to make it clear that we do not blame the travel company for this experience. Based on how the Anvil Hotel was presented online — including the listed amenities, breakfast, Wi-Fi, location, etc. — it appeared to be a decent, comfortable place that had everything we would need for our trip. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at all.
We arrived late at night and immediately discovered that parking is extremely limited. There are only a handful of hotel parking spaces, and the rest is street parking that can be quite a walk away.
Then we got to the room. Tiny. Dark. Dingy. Uncomfortable. The bed was small and uncomfortable, and the floors creaked and made noise whenever you walked around. For what we were paying, we expected a comfortable place to come back to after spending 10–12 hours hiking and sightseeing. Instead, we dreaded coming back to the room.
The air conditioner made an awful rattling/clanking noise. We called the front desk, someone came up, took the front of the unit off and told us they would come back to fix it. They never came back.
The hot water was another problem. It would run out, leaving my husband and me literally rushing through our showers because we didn't know who was going to get the last of the hot water.
There is no housekeeping or room cleaning, which is pretty unbelievable at this price point.
The refrigerator is basically just a beverage cooler, with no microwave or way to heat food. The snack prices were ridiculous — $8 for a bottle of water. We ended up filling our water bottles with faucet water rather than paying that.
The hotel advertises breakfast, but don't expect much. My husband has a severe onion allergy, and the main breakfast option was a pre-made breakfast burrito containing onions. They gave him a small yogurt and granola bar as an alternative. That's essentially what breakfast consisted of for him.
The Wi-Fi didn't work either. We weren't trying to sit around on our phones all day, but when you're traveling, you need internet to book activities, make reservations, research restaurants, and plan your next day.
Unfortunately, the front desk experience wasn't much better. When we realized we needed to leave, we started working with our travel company at 7 a.m. on day three to try to get moved somewhere else. The process was dragged out the entire day, and because of the delays, we ended up having to stay — and pay for — another night before we could finally leave the next morning.
Yes, the location is convenient if you're interested in walking to bars and pubs. But that wasn't what we were looking for. We were in Jackson Hole to explore, hike, and enjoy Wyoming, and after being gone all day, we wanted a clean, comfortable room with a good bed, hot water, working air conditioning, and reliable Wi-Fi.
For $700+ a night, those aren't unreasonable expectations.
There are other hotels in the same general area that are much, much cheaper and would be perfectly adequate if you're simply looking for somewhere to sleep.
I truly believe the biggest issue is that what is presented online does not match the experience we had in person. If we had known beforehand how small the rooms were, how limited the amenities were, how unreliable the Wi-Fi and hot water were, and that there was no housekeeping, we absolutely would have chosen somewhere else.
Don't let the price or the location fool you into thinking you're getting a luxury experience. You are not.
We don't blame the travel company — they booked us based on the information and amenities presented by the hotel. The Anvil Hotel simply did not live up to what was advertised.
Zero out of ten. Would not recommend. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
I have the video of the LOUD noise the air was making for some reason the file is too large to upload.
