Would stay again but a few issues

You cannot beat the location of this hotel. We have stayed all over the Outer Banks over the years and love many different locations for many different reasons. We usually rent a house but this was a quick trip with a friend so we decided to get a hotel. This hotel is located by MP8 oceanfront, right next to the lifeguard station and right across from the Exxon/Stop and Shop. The breakfast and lunch sandwiches at the Stop and Shop are fantastic and very reasonably priced. This hotel used to be a Days Inn and Hilton renovated it to now be a hotel where you enter from the inside. Because of this some of the front exterior windows look onto the hallway. Our living room overlooked the pool/ocean but our bedroom window overlooked the inside hallway. It was a bit difficult to keep the light from the hallway out-we ended up putting a light against one side of the curtain and a suitcase on the other side to keep it against the wall. The rooms and bathrooms are very modern and clean. Good size bathroom with walk in shower. Smaller but full size refrigerator was great and a little kitchenette. Table and chairs for eating in the room too. This room could easily work for a couple with younger kids. The pool was a decent size and never crowed (a couple younger guys must have had a late night and slept out there one night). You did not need a key to get into the pool area but it didn't seem to be crowded with non hotel guests. We did notice the sign said the lobby doors would be locked after 10pm- we came back after midnight one night and they were not locked. We feel very safe in OBX so it wasn't an issue for us but some people may have one. There was a problem with our billing-luckily I had my original confirmation email and they credited back what they had overcharged. The office also checked me out and back in and there was an issue getting my Hilton points/nights but after a few calls to the Diamond Desk that was sorted out as well. Overall there is room for some improvement but the staff was very friendly and the accommodations were clean and loved being able to walk to so many restaurants and being right on the beach.

Never Again

As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I can honestly say that I’ve never had a more disappointing stay at a Hilton location. In fact, I feel like I’m staying at a low budget Motel 6 on the east side of Chicago. The hotel is loud, dirty and poorly kept. Our room didn’t feel clean and that was solidified by the large roach who greeted us upon our arrival. I will say, after finding discarded water bottles and open potato chip bags under the bed, roaches probably do feel more comfortable than humans at this location and they are certainly well fed. Our “ocean view” was obscured by the hotel’s entire air conditioning system which was practically connected to our balcony. The breakfast was okay, but once the idea entered my mind that roaches crawled on the food prior to it being served, I lost my appetite. Also, while the hotel cannot control the cleanliness of the beach, the beach was dirty and trash lined the dunes. It’s sad to say, but this part of the OBX feels like being on a Carnival cruise at tax time.

Newly remodeled hotel. Get a upper floor for great views of the ocean. The gree breakfast is excellent. We stayed 5 nights and everything was great.

600$ a night slum lord room

Horrible. Stayed five nights. Front desk guy verified that our room rate had been doubled for this week of July 4th. No service at all. No connected phones in our room, no way to call front desk. No toilet paper or clean towels without going down from our 4th floor room to front desk. Long elevator waits, as housekeeping staff used the same one.,Not once in 5 days was anything in our room cleaned or bed changed. Non residents of the hotel used the small pool and pool deck. The smell of weed (skunk) wafted thru our vents. This is a no smoking hotel. When I reported these things at front desk, I was met with “what do you want me to do about it” type responses. Not what I expect for paying 600 $ a night.
